The Thinkers in Residence initiative is aimed at stimulating innovative research, establishing global networks, creating a vibrant research culture and ensuring that Deakin keeps pace with exciting research developments and knowledge creation. It provides an opportunity for highly-ranked researchers from around the world & a range of fields to engage, develop and invigorate the Deakin research community. Volume 3 July 2012 Garry (pictured right) will commence the project at Deakin in July, and then head back later this year with three ADT dancers - Daniel Jaber, Kimball Wong and Scott Ewen. He will be researching technology in performance, firstly undertaking theoretical research, and then later practical with the dancers. The project will run for three-years in total, Garry travelling to Melbourne for a total of two months of each year. Garry Stewart, Photo: Chris Herzfeld This is a very exciting project for both Garry and the company. Garry will apply his findings from Deakin, at ADT, in the development of new dance works - you can expect to see an exciting combination of 3D and live performance in the future! In the Studio - Nought Development Daniel Jaber is back in the studio, ready to continue the development of his ADT-commissioned work, Nought. This is the first time ADT has commissioned an ADT dancer to make a full-length work for the company. "This is an incredible opportunity to work with an amazing ensemble of dancers under the guidance and mentorship of one of Australia's most influential choreographers - Garry Stewart," Daniel commented. "Nought is an investigation into compositional complexities using numerological logic and formal structuring devices, the work is inspired by Michael Serres writings on the dancer as a number a calculator and that of vein blank, naked, non existent and possessing the body of the possible." Daniel and the ADT dancers will be busy working on Nought whilst Garry is at Deakin. There will be an infor- mal showing of Nought in September in Adelaide (details to come), and the work will make its world premiere in 2013, also in Adelaide.
