This started out so simple and it turned into a monster. This tutorial guide is here to help you understand….EVERYTHING about setting up MMD, MME, MMD, PMDeditor and PMXeditor (and probably anything else somebody else brings out). It covers System Requirements (mainly for MMD), required downloads, where to download the programs, how to ‘install them’, a few tips here and there and probably something else I forgot to put here in this introduction. Just go and look and contents page. It’ll give you an idea of how this tutorial is set out and what is in it. Unfortunately because I do not know how to use it or install it, there is not a section dedicated to the Kinect Plugin for MMD. However, there are tutorials on Youtube, which may be of use to you. I hope that this helps you. 1 | P a g e #. Introduction #. Contents Page #. Afterword 1. MikuMikuDance An Introduction to MMD System Requirements Set Up Downloads How to Set up 2. It is free software. It is a simple program that allows beginners of 3D animation to use to create animations by using frames. You can import wav files to make animations to and also import video files as well. With the program, you get starter models of the Vocaloid Characters, including Miku Hatsune, Rin Kagamine, Len Kagamine, Neru Akita, Meiko, Meiko S. Kaito and Haku. Along with starter accessories and stage. It is also important to note that MMD is no longer being updated, with MMD7.39 being the final and latest release. Another program called MikuMikuMoving is being developed by Mogg.Project which is similar to MMD. System Requirements Please note that the table below was translated from the original Japanese version and may sound odd in places as I tried to reword them to be understandable but sometimes this isn’t always possible. The MMD software can only be run on Windows based OS’s. MacOS and LinuxOS’s will not work along with others that are not Windows based. Older Windows Systems such as windows2000 and Laptop OS’s with a low spec may run MMD. However, it is recommended that you look at the recommendations table to see the minimum requirements and the recommended requirements. After viewing the Recommendation Specifications it is advised that when you wish to buy a new computer you buy a powerful computer that will allow MMD to work/run comfortably. However, please make sure that the price is within your budget range. Do not go overboard and buy a supercomputer for a high price, as MMD will work with the requirements below; as MMD may not be compatible with some supercomputer systems. For example, if your system is too powerful for a program then it may not be able to run – just like if you have a weaker system the program won’t be able to run. Operating System Minimum (Original Translation was Required) : Windows98SE Windows2000 with GDI + Library (if you want to use MME). Recommended: Any Windows Based OS. Windows XP was used for development. CPU Minimum (Original Translation was Required): 330 1.6GHz 735, 1.2GHz/Pentium2, 1.2GH/ATOM Dual Core. Low MMD runs more smoothly when no other windows Voltage version PentiumM. are open on older systems. Recommended: On more powerful CPU systems, MMD can sit Subsequent CPU Core 2 Quad Q6600 (Used during development of comfortably with other windows open in the MMD) background. 3 | P a g e GPU Minimum (Original Translation was Required) MMD: The programme can run on a “on-board chip set”. It is desirable to have a dedicated (“powerful/good”) GeForce5 Series RADEON x850 9.5 Thousand graphics board for MMD/MME to work comfortably SM2.0 Capable Video Card (“smoothly”) Version 7. Versions (Directx9) have run on; [This may not be correctly translated] Graphics IntelGMA 830GM boards such as Quadro dedicated software to 3D Intel900/ION software – like that for Shade may be under DirectX because of the friendly environment OpenGL. MME: “MME (external expansion tool) is left out of the intel not operate Performance in MMD does not come out. In other in 830GM” . I believe this means that MME will not work on a system words, I believe it is saying these won’t work. As it with 830 GM. goes onto saying the following; Recommended: This does not correspond to stab two graphics boards MMD: such as SLI, CrossX Of Ati AMD. Past Radeon based GeForce9600GT (Used in development) graphics board there was a problem of rendering AVI DirectX10 SM4.0 files (It was slow rendering). GeForce 8 series and later. RADEON HD2xxx There is a program called MMD Radeon Output Booster which can improve the problem. MME : GTX460 or later. The VRAM, Windows XP or 1GB or more is recommended 768, 7 / Vista over 512MB. MME & GTX460: According to the translation, GTX460 or later works best with MME. Other Information It is recommended that there is at least 20MB of free space on HDD for MMD to be stored. You can start up MMD from a USB/Flash drive ect. It is also recommended that you have a lot of HDD space, due to the nature of exporting AVI files. Rendering videos in MMD as AVI takes a lot of space at least 90MBs-22GBs or more. Rendering pictures to .bmp format takes up at least 7/9.68 MB’s of space. PC Buying Tips (Note: This was translated from Japanese and may sound odd in places). These are tips from the VPVP wiki. They are not my tips. Later/stronger Windows OS systems are recommended (that are not on-board graphics). If you are unsure of what computer to get because you are a beginner to computers, consult a clerk /staff member at a PC store about what type of computer is suitable for playing “3D games” / "PC that can play 3D games." Make sure that the price of the computer is within your budget range. If you are unsure of what to buy get a notebook PC and (or?) a desktop PC. Set up Downloads (Directx9/7.39) All links here led to Microsoft’s website. Please do not be afraid to click them. They can also be found in the description as well. 4 | P a g e > Directx9 (June 2010) – Link > Visual C++ 2008 - x64Bit – x86Bit (note: If you have a printer installed you shouldn’t have to download this). > DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer if “d3dx9_32.dll Error Message” appears. Link [You need an internet connection] Downloading MMD You can find MMD at the VPVP site, Mr. Yu Higuchi’s website; http://www.geocities.jp/higuchuu4/index_e.htm The page should be set out somewhat like this – or at least this is what you should be looking for. 1.1 Choreography tool <- This is not the MMD program. You can ignore this first link. 1.2 MikuMikuDance (Multi Model Edition) Version 5.24 1.3 MikuMikuDance (DirectX9 Ver.) Version 7.39 (64bit ver.) Notes It is said that there are no download requirements for MMD 5.24. That being said it might be a good idea to download everything that is needed – besides Directx9 if you wish to run the older version. However, it is recommended that you use the newest version of MMD. If you want to use MME you will have to download 7.39 - the directx9 version. There is now a new update to MMD for 64bit systems which you can download. MMD7.39 has always worked on my Windows7 64bit without any problems. MMD doesn't care if you have Directx10/11, it wants Directx9. It will work without Directx9, however I found that sometimes MMD didn't want to open because "Directx9 wasn't found" or some error message along these lines. This error has disappeared ever since I installed Directx9. How to set up > You do not need to go through an installation process. All you need to do is copy and paste all the files from the .zip file to where you want the program to be located. So if you want MMD to be located in your documents copy and paste the files there. > Click the little Miku Icon and the program should start up. > If you get an error saying d3dx9_32.dll was not found then you do not have the 'correct' version of directx9 to work. In which case you'll have to go here; http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details-b.aspx?id=35 and use the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer to get your MMD to work. Once it is done, you should be able to open MMD. If you wish to uninstall MMD at any time, then all you need to do is delete the MMD folder. You do not need to go through an actual uninstall process. Just delete the folder with MMD in it and its subfolders. Note: You do not need to have MMD on your computer if you do not want it to be there.
