When I got there, I noticed that there were some minor regional differences between Celtic people. For example, houses in Britain and Ireland were typically round, while those in Gaul were rectangular. The Celts were more advanced than the Romans in some scientific aspects. I thought that the Celtic calendars were much more accurate than the Roman one. I noticed that the Celtic swords and shields were as good as the Roman ones. It was very interesting. There I learned that Druids were not only priests, diviners and astronomers, they were also judges, mediators, and political advisers who played an important role in declarations of war or peace. On the whole, I enjoyed my trip and I learned a lot about the people living there. I would advise the future travellers not to judge anyone before you know them. I didn’t particularly like the Celts, but now I look up to them. I think it was a good experience and I had a great time. Lilla Borzai (9NYD) TRAvel tips 5 Outdoor ideas I kinda have a feeling that no one expected this year to turn out like this. The corona virus has been changing our daily life and freetime activities since March, and it’s giving me a hard time too when it comes to spare time or places we can go out at the weekends. Due to the virus, the government and health authorities are saying that we should spend our time outside in the fresh air. That’s a great opportunity for exploring the surrounding environment. Search for hiking trails close to you and ask friends to explore it with you. It can be really refreshing if you spend some time outside after a long week of school. Common places around Budapest that you can visit within an hour of travelling are the followings: Csillebérc and Normafa are really popular with hikers in Budapest since it’s easily accessible by bus 21/21A from Széll Kálmán square. Here you can visit Erzsébet-kilátó at János- hegy and travel with the libegő while admiring the beautiful view of the capital. Visiting Városliget can be a really great idea too since Budapest Zoo is open for visitors even in the winter time. It’s mostly an outdoor activity except a few of the animal houses. You can explore the statues in the surrounding park or even visit Vajdahunyad castle too. As soon as winter comes, the Városliget ice rink will open its gates for visitors so If you’re a fan of ice skating don’t miss this opportunity either. Dóra Sebestyén (12E) christianity 6 The Greek Catholic Church The Greek Catholic Church is one of the Eastern Catholic Churches. It has a beautiful tradition and liturgical rite, which is very similar to that of the Orthodox Church, but there are some parts which were adopted from the Roman Catholic Church. Greek Catholics are in full union with the Roman Catholic Church. We accept the pope's primacy. There is a lot of exciting information about these Christians, so let's get started. After the Roman and the Greek Church got separated in 1054, there were some unsuccessful attempts to reunite. In the North of the Kingdom of Hungary, the idea of the union started in the 17th century. The Munkács Orthodox Church agreed to a union in Ungvár, in 1646. 63 Orthodox fathers wanted to join Rome. The Holy Father received them, together with their believers. After that, more and more priests accepted the union and became Greek Catholics. The Greek Catholic Church has seven sacraments. Our Holy Mass is the Saint Liturgy, which has three parts. Our churches are ornated with icons. They are painted on wooden boards and depict one or more saints or Jesus Christ. We have a marvellous wall, which separates the sanctuary. It is called an Iconostasis. In the middle there is the royal door. Here the bishop and the priest can get inside or outside—the deacons just a few times. On the right, the first icon is Jesus Christ. On the left, the first icon is the Virgin Mary. Next to her is Saint Nicholas (in Hungary), and next to Jesus there is another icon. It is different in different churches. There is also the icon of the saint or the feast after which the church was named. We can also see the icons of apostles and the icons of the twelve main holidays. It is possible to see the icon of Jesus sitting on his throne in bishops vestments. We use a lot of liturgical dispositions: a chalice, a disk (Paten), a knife (Spear), the little spoon (Lavis), an asterisc (star). The dresses of the deacons are Anderi, Dalmatica, Epimanikia, Orarion. The liturgical dresses of priests are Anderi, Sticharion, Epitrachelion, Zone, Epimanikia, Phelonion. The liturgical dresses of bishops are Andrei, Sticharion, Epitrachelion, Zone, Epiminika, Epigonátion, Sakkos, Omophorion, Panagia, Mitre, Crozier. I hope it made you interested in the Greek Catholics and the Orthodox Church. The Pravoslavs (Orthodox Christians) are not equal to Byzantine Catholics, but we do have the same traditions and rite. We are siblings in Jesus Christ. Máté Fehér (11D) 7 Hungarian Greek Catholics in England Once a month there is Saint Liturgy in Hungarian in London. The venue is the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Family in Exile (Duke street-corner of Weighhouse Street Mayfair, London). The three Hierarchs of the Hungarian Greek Catholic Metropolitanate went to this church to celebrate the Eucharist in 2017: Fülöp Kocsis, archbishop-metropolitan (Archdiocese of Hajdúdorog), Atanáz Orosz, bishop (Diocese of Miskolc) and Ábel A. Szocska OSBM (Diocese of Nyíregyháza). A lot of people emigrated to England, and there was a demand to have a community and a church where they can pray in their language and rite. In 2018 the organiser priest was Sándor Jaczkó. CHECK OUT the website of the English Department www.szmg.hu - Latest news - Quizlet groups join links - previous issues of 4U!
