CORPORATE PARTNERS Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association - 1 - PCAHA Rulebook - 2017-2018 Season Dear Players, Coaches, and Parents, On behalf of the Vancouver Canucks players, coaches, and management, I would like to extend a warm welcome to members of the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association as another exciting season approaches. At a time when children have many sports and activities to choose from, we are thrilled that a large number of boys and girls have chosen to play hockey here in Beautiful British Columbia. I’ve been fortunate to learn many valuable lessons through hockey, gaining skills and experiences that have helped shape me into the person I am today. It is my hope that you too will continue to develop knowledge and skills this season that will serve you well into the future. I encourage every parent, manager and coach to champion Sportsmanship Starts in the Stands, a parent education program launched by BC Hockey and the Vancouver Canucks that encourages and promotes sportsmanship and positivity in the stands. We believe this is an important initiative that sets a consistent level of expectation and emphasizes good behaviour in any hockey environment. We’re grateful for your support as fans and ambassadors of this great sport. PCAHA membership includes 43 Minor Hockey Associations and two above-Minor Leagues and covers the area from Hope to Sunshine Coast and from Seattle to Whistler. PCAHA registration for the 2016-2017 season included 19,438 male and female players aged 5 to 20 playing on 1,249 registered teams; 7,000 Coaches and bench staff; and 2,000 referees. The PCAHA Constitution, By-Laws, Rules and Regulations provide the framework for competition, communication, and development within the PCAHA, and have been discussed and approved by the PCAHA’s member Associations and Leagues at past Annual General Meetings. The 2017-2018 Rulebook includes amendments approved at the 76th PCAHA Annual General Meeting, held on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the Sunrise Banquet and Conference Centre, Surrey, B.C. If you have any questions about the Rules and Regulations, please contact your Association Executive members. If they are unable to help, they will be able to refer you to a PCAHA representative who can answer your questions. These are your Rules and Regulations and it is up to you to be aware of them and abide by them. PCAHA's mission statement stresses sportsmanship, fair competition, development and safety for hockey players of all skill levels. PCAHA member Associations have been and will continue to be leaders in all these facets of the game. For example, last season PCAHA continued implementation of Cross Ice Hockey at Hockey 1-4, as part of a BC Hockey mandate, considered a zone hockey concept, welcomed Everett Youth Hockey into our "A" leagues, and supported an interlocking league schedule with the Vancouver Island Female Midget teams. Sportsmanship Starts in the Stands is a BC Hockey initiative that PCAHA strongly supports. The game of hockey is for the kids and a positive environment keeps it fun for all. Respect for all participants in the game, including players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and fans is essential! One of our biggest challenges continues to be the scheduling and rescheduling of league and playoff games, especially in the snow! Please be considerate and flexible when asked to accommodate scheduling conflicts. Your cooperation is very much appreciated! In closing, I would like to thank all the volunteers involved in providing Minor Hockey for our players, whether at the team, Association, or league level.
