BURNSIDE & SEIFER DESIGNERS AT LARGE CASE STUDY A LOCAL MUSEUM MAKES HISTORY “Chris Burnside & Reed Seifer are engaged designers who listen to what our goals are and are really interested in the work we do. Not only have they provided graphic design services but have suggested copywriting and ideas that take us to the next level. The branding they created for us, which has been carried across our major events and promotional materials, is now a recognizable—and beloved— symbol of the Society throughout the town and the region. B & S have also successfully brought a fresh perspective to our exhibit design while maintaining a sense of continuity across projects so that our signature style remains intact and we continue to capture our visitors’ interest and imagination with the presentation of history.” —Ramin Ganeshram EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WESTPORT HISTORICAL SOCIETY WESTPORT, CONNECTICUT WESTPORT HISTORICAL SOCIETY IS A CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO PRESERVING, PRESENTING AND CELEBRATING THE HISTORY OF WESTPORT CONNECTICUT. She returned to America settling in Westport in 1941 where she lived the remainder of her life. Proficient at languages, she worked as an English language teacher in Berlin during World War I. Schultz developed an early acquaintance with Herman Göring, Hitler’s second-in-command and through this access to Göring—and Hitler himself—she was able to report in detail about Hitler’s plans for European domination and Jewish genocide. She filed her most sensitive stories from various European cities under a pseudonym so as not to jeopardize her entrée behind the scenes of the Third Reich. A masterful investigative reporter, Schultz’ dispatches provided critical intelligence about Germany’s wartime plans. Göring called Schultz “the dragon lady of Chicago” and attempted to eliminate her more than once. She left Germany after being injured in an Allied Air Raid on Berlin then went to Spain, ultimately returning home and settling in Westport. Although she attempted to return to Germany to continue her work, she was denied re-entry.
