May 2020 Operator Manual : S.W.O.R.D International; MK 17 Issue 2 Multi-cal, Patent Pending SAFETY RULES The following safety rules are placed in this manual by S.W.O.R.D. International, Inc. as an important reminder that firearm safety is your responsibility. Please read this operator's manual before handling your firearm. Firearms can be dangerous and can potentially cause serious injury, damage to property, or death, if handled improperly. • Treat every firearm as if it were loaded. • Never index your muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy. • Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire. • Know your target, what is beyond it, and all surroundings. • Always wear hearing and eye protection when shooting. • Discharging firearms in poorly ventilated areas, cleaning firearms, or handling ammunition may result in exposure to lead, a substance known to be associated with birth defects, reproductive harm and other serious injury. • Be sure that your barrel is clear of obstructions before shooting. • Use only clean, high quality factory loaded ammunition in good condition. WARNING Before starting an inspection and/or moving down range, be sure to clear the firearm. To be considered SAFE before disassembly, cleaning, inspecting, transporting, or storing, the firearm must be cleared. With the bolt carrier assembly locked to the rear or in its forward position, if the firearm is dropped or jarred with a loaded magazine in place, it could chamber a round. When handling your firearm ALWAYS ensure it is pointed in a safe direction. Do not load with a hot chamber. If your firearm fails to fire with a live round in the chamber of a hot barrel, remove the round. If you cannot remove it within 10 seconds, remove magazine and wait 15 minutes with the firearm pointed in a safe direction. This way a round cooking off won’t harm you. ALWAYS keep your face away from the ejection port while clearing, especially with a hot chamber. DO NOT OVERHEAT BARRELS. Sustained firing of the firearm will rapidly raise the temperature of the barrel to a critical point. Firing 140 rounds, rapidly and continuously, will raise the temperature of the barrel to the COOKOFF point. At this temperature, any live round remaining in the chamber for any reason may cook off (detonate) in as short as 10 seconds. Operator Manual : S.W.O.R.D International; MK 17 Issue 2 Multi-cal, Patent Pending WARNING If the cook-off point/temperture is reached, the firearm should be immediately cleared and allowed to cool. Sustained rate of fire for the firearm is 12-15 rounds per minute. This is the rate of fire that the firearm can continue to deliver for an indefinite length of time without serious overheating. Sustained rate of fire should never be exceeded except under circumstances of extreme urgency. Exceeding the sustained rate of fire can result in a catastrophic failure of the barrel, resulting in injury or death to personnel. When disassembling the magazine, turn the magazine away from your face, the spring is under compression. Always make sure your firearm is clear and on SAFE before moving down range. If an audible ‘POP’ or reduced RECOIL is experienced during firing, immediately CEASE FIRE. Either condition could indicate an incomplete powder burn and/or a bullet stuck in the bore. If unsure how to correct this issue contact an experienced gunsmith. DO NOT fire if water is present in barrel. DO NOT interchange bolts between firearms. Be sure the cam pin is installed in the bolt group. If it isn’t, your firearm can still fire and will damage the firearm. INTERESTED IN FIREARMS TRAINING?
