This season is particularly important because it marks the 10 answers season of the Marching Owls. Starting and fostering traditions is an exciting undertaking. It is something that takes time and dedication. The band has worked to establish a strong presence on campus and in the community. This season is dedicated to those men and women who, over the past ten years, have worked to make this organization an icon of the university. They have chosen to be more than just students. They have taken on the role of ambassadors for Florida Atlantic University and the department of music. I want to express my sincere gratitude to those students and staff who have brought us to this point, and my unbridled excitement for those future Marching Member Spotlight .05 Owls, who will reap the benefit of their dedication. Get to know the Marching Owls - Dr. Murray Director, FAU Marching Owls pg. 1 September 2014 www.fau.edu/marchingowls Upcoming events… The Marching Owls are constantly performing at events on and off campus. 2014 Performance We are completing the 2014 season and the Marching Owls have been out performing at numerous events on campus. The Marching Owls have already Schedule as of 10/24/14 performed two of their season shows. Both shows were tributes to rock bands celebrating their 40th anniversary. Show 1 featured music from KISS, August including Rock and Roll All Nite, Shout it out Loud, and God Gave Rock and Roll to You. Show 2 was a tribute to AD/DC, featuring songs arranged by 8/9- Leadership and Drum-line Marching Owl teaching assistants, Alejandro Navarro and Chris Schletter. report 8/11 - All new and returning The Marching Owls traveled to the Thursday night away game vs. Florida members report International and shared the field with our friends and fellow musicians in 8/11-/17 Preseason Training the Golden Panther Band. 8/17 Freshman Convocation The Owls also performed a show at the homecoming game versus UAB, celebrating the 10th season of the band. Members of that very first band came back to join us as a part of the Marching Owls Alumni Band. They September joined us on the field and in the stands. There is one remaining home 9/13 Game 1 vs. Tulsa football game versus Old Dominion on November 29th. We invite you to 9/27 Game 2: vs. UTSA come out to any of these games and meet the Marching Owls. Finally, the band will perform at the FAU Band-O-Rama Concert Nov. 23rd, October 2014 at Mizner ParK Amphitheater. This annual round-robin concert 10/2 Game 3: at FIU features all the university bands at FAU. This includes the wind ensemble, 10/18 Game 4: vs. WKU jazz bands, chamber groups, and the Marching Owls. Members of each group are determined through an on-campus or video audition. The band covers the cost of the uniform and flags. We will have on campus auditions for those twirlers and color guard interested in being part of the group in Fall 2015. These auditions take place near the end of March. Check back with the website in January for more details. 4 Marching Owls Member Spotlight Music Education Major Chris Sampson is preparing for his future. Chris Sampson is in his second year as drum major for the Marching Owls. As a music education major, Chris is gaining experience and knowledge that will directly benefit him as a future educator. As he finishes his junior year, he looks back on what it means to be a Marching Owl. “I was a member of my high school marching band for all four years, and having been told so much about the Marching Owls from my staff at high school, it seemed like a great opportunity. In my first year, it helped create the social connections with people I may have never met otherwise. Additionally, it has allowed me to serve my university in ways I never could as a regular student.
