U. S. Sports-Related Beer Cans 1950 through 2005 A Complete Checklist and Price Guide by Bruce Remick BCCA #7549 Introduction This reference offers collectors of beer cans and sports memorabilia a comprehensive checklist and price guide for all beer cans produced in the U.S. with sports-related designs since the 1950’s. The checklist features cans that salute specific pro, college, and amateur teams, sports events, and sports personalities. Also listed are cans that depict less popular sports and cans that include sports themes in their design. Some cans were produced by U.S. can companies and were exported to foreign countries. Some were not really beer cans at all, but were produced as banks or mugs and given away at a local sports event. They look like beer cans so I chose to list them. The checklist is organized by sport. Cans are grouped alphabetically by brewery within each sport category, and are listed in the approximate order of their issue. For photos of individual cans, appropriate book references are provided. Beer Can Collectors of America® (BCCA) News Report issues are referenced as a source of photos for post-1988 cans. Many minor differences in printing, government warning information, and color are mentioned, but not all of these differences have been listed as separate varieties. Price ranges in this checklist indicate the approximate value of each can among can collectors who specialize in sports cans. These prices are for cans in “new” condition, and a $1 minimum value is used. As with any collectible, the prices here aren’t etched in stone, and a can’s actual value always remains the opinion of its owner or buyer. But, used as a general guide, these prices indicate which cans have premium values relative to more common ones. A can’s age, regional availability, subject matter, and collector demand are among factors that play a role in what it might sell for in various parts of the country.
