The implementation progress has improved with some contracts completed such as (a) office complex for Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and the access road; (b) supply and installation of air navigation equipment, thus enhancing the safety of the Kenyan airspace; (c) emergency activities at JKIA including international passenger arrival terminal facility at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi; lounges for airlines and acquisition of fire tenders, streamlining the management arrangements for all players at airports; and (d) Webuye-Kitale road section (60km), except for the additional works (two interchanges). 2 . All the twelve road related civil works contracts are either completed or nearing completion or execution is advancing. The contracts include: (i) reconstruction of Kisumu-Kakamega (47 km) road section; (ii) Webuye-Kitale (60km); (iii) reconstruction of Bachuma Gate-Maji ya Chumvi (53km) road section; (iv) construction of new two-lane carriageway along the Athi River-Machakos turnoff (21km) road section; (v) expansion into a dual carriageway Kisumu Boys-Mamboleo junction road section (4.5km); (vi) reconstruction of Kakamega-Webuye road section (40km); (vii) construction of five interchanges at major junctions at Nakuru-Njoro, Nakuru-Nyahururu, Mau Summit-Kericho, Kericho-Kisumu, and Ahero-Kericho; and (viii) constructing an office block for Kenya National Highways Authority and other road sub-sector entities. These works are expected to be completed by December 31, 2018, the closing date of the credit. 3 . All the feasibility studies and detailed engineering designs of the selected five road sections are expected to be completed in the next six months. 4 . Bank cleared the technical evaluation report for provision of consulting services for the reconstruction of the runaway at Moi International Airport, Mombasa. Focus is on accelerating execution since all major contracts have been awarded.
