The results for these markers were sent to a computer, that evaluated them using a program designed to consider all of the pedigree trees that are possible in the last three generations. The trees considered include a simple pedigree with a single breed (a likely pure-bred dog), two different breeds at the parental level (a first-generation cross), all the way up to a complex tree with eight different great-grandparent breeds allowed. Our computer used information from over 185 breeds from our breed database to fill these potential pedigrees. For each of the millions of combinations of ancestry trees built and considered, the computer gave each a score representing how well that selected combination of breeds matched to your dog’s data. The pedigree with the overall best score is the one which is shown on the ancestry chart. Only breeds that reached our set confidence threshold for reporting are reported in the ancestry chart. Bluetick Coonhound Height: 58 - 76 cm Weight (Show): 20 - 45 kg Weight (Pet): 23 - 35 kg Bluetick Ears: Muzzle: Tail: Coonhound This Coonhound is typically bred in the southern states, and has arisen through the selective breeding of the Bleu de Gascogne hound of southwest France, the English Foxhound, the cur dog, the American Foxhound, and the Black And Tan Virginia Foxhound. They are excellent hunting dogs that excel in tracking and treeing raccoons, bear and cougars. George Washington owned Bluetick Coonhounds and described their musical voices as the “bells of Moscow”. The United Kennel Club initially recognised this breed as the English Foxhound and Coonhound, which encompassed many breeds including the Bluetick, Treeing Walker and English Coonhounds. They are now recognised as separate breeds. This breed has been admitted to the Foundation Stock Service within the American Kennel Club. There are no official written records of its origins, which remain unknown and speculative. This breed has been isolated on Jindo for hundreds of years and, owing to the absence of other dogs, the Jindo’s genetic pool has remained relatively pure throughout the centuries. The primary functions of the Jindo are hunting and guarding. The breed is protected under the Cultural Properties Protection Act and in 1962, the breed was recognised as the 53rd Natural Treasure by the Korean government. Jindos were used in the opening ceremony of the 1988 Summer Olympics held in Seoul. It is illegal to export Jindos out of Korea, however many Korean-Americans have been exporting them since the mid-1980s. The breed was recognised by the United Kennel Club in 1998. The Jindo has been recorded in the Foundation Stock Service of the American Kennel Club since January 2008. The Jindo comes in three coat varieties, including red (including a deep red to a light fawn) to white (including red or gold hints on the ears or legs) or black and tan. The Akita has been a symbol of health and prosperity and bears the status of an imperial symbol and guard. The breed’s history began in 1630 when Matagi Inu breeders started crossing their dogs with other breeds indigenous to the Akita region. The resulting breed was known as the Odate Inu, which were crossbred with dogs native to other regions of Japan and larger European dogs, leading to the modern day Akita. In 1931 the Akita was designated as a national monument and became the national dog of Japan. The breed was established as a purebred line at that time. Today the breed has many fans as a companion dog across Europe and North America. The Akita may be any colour including white, brindle or pinto (white with evenly placed patches covering the head and body). Black masks are possible in this breed, but not on white dogs. Chow Chow Height: 46 - 56 cm Weight (Show): 18 - 29 kg Weight (Pet): 19 - 31 kg Chow Chow Ears: Muzzle: Tail: The Chow Chow is a venerable breed dating back at least two thousand years. Many believe that the breed originated in China, but there is some evidence that indicates the Chow Chow actually migrated to China from Mongolia and Manchuria. While no one can say for sure from which breeds the Chow Chow has descended, it is believed that the breed has Tibetan Mastiff and Samoyed in its bloodline. The Chow Chow served a dual purpose in China. Some were used for hunting while others were used to guard the sacred temples from evil entities. The East Indian Company brought the Chow Chow to England in 1781 and Queen Victoria received Chow Chows as a gift in 1865. During the 1880’s, the numbers of Chow Chows imported increased drastically. The Chow Chow is one of the oldest known breeds. The Chow Chow comes in either rough or smooth coat, with the rough having a more fluffy appearance. The coat may have lighter shading and be one of five colours; black, blue, cinnamon, cream, and red, which varies from a light golden to a deep mahogany.
