Crossing schedule: Stirling Road at SW 33rd Avenue Asks Rabbi Chaim Friedlander (Rinat Chaim): How is it possible for us to praise Hashem? Hollywood Police will control the light It only makes sense for peers to praise each other. By what right do we think it’s Friday 5:00-9:00pm, Shabbat 6:45am-12:30pm & 3:30-6:30pm appropriate for mere mortals to praise the Divine? The answer is in this phrase from the When crossing Stirling Road, make sure to always wait until cars stop by the end of Yishtabach. God chose this and wants us to praise Him. We must recognize that the light before crossing. Jaywalking is extremely dangerous (& illegal). For the possibility for us to praise God is only plausible when we fully recognize and understand safety of you and your family, it is imperative to cross only in the cross walk. that we are fundamentally unworthy and unable to praise Hashem. It is only due to Hashem’s will, and His empowering us to do so, that we are able to praise Him in Pesukei Shabbat Elevator will operate Shabbat morning from 7:30am-11:00am Dzimra and throughout our tefilah. While most Minchah/Maariv: 5:20pm people refer to our current month as Cheshvan, according to most sources its proper name is Shacharit: Marcheshvan or M’rachsh’van. Marcheshvan is probably derived from its location in the calendar. Sun. 7:15, 8:00, 9:00am Sanctuary / 8:30am Beit Midrash In Akkadian (Babylonian/Assyrian), “w” (vav) and “m” (mem) sounds can interchange. As a result, Mon. & Thurs. 6:15, 7:15, 8:00am Sanctuary / 6:45am Beit Midrash Marcheshvan which is from the two words “m’rach” and “shvan,” would have been “warh” and Tues., Wed. & Fri. 6:15, 7:30, 8:00am Sanctuary / 7:00am Beit Midrash “shman,” in Akkadian, corresponding to the Hebrew “yerech shmini,” thus “eighth month.” When the eighth month is mentioned in the Mishnah and Talmud, it is referred to as Marcheshvan. Throughout all of Rashi’s Biblical and Talmudic commentary, he also refers to the month as WEEKDAY LEARNING see flyers Marcheshvan. Some people erroneously think that the correct name for this month is Cheshvan, and the prefix Daf Yomi in the Library. Weekdays: 5:30am & after Maariv. Shabbat: 1 hour “Mar” was added because it’s the Hebrew word for “bitter”. According to this theory, Cheshvan is before Minchah. Sundays: 6:30am. “bitter” because there are no Jewish holidays contained therein, and the bitterness is even more Morning Learning Program with Rabbi Yossi Jankovits daily in Beit pronounced due to the abundance of holidays in the previous month of Tishrei. Even though this is Midrash. Sun. (7:30-8:30am), Mon., Thurs. (6:00-6:45am), Tues., Wed., Fri. false, this misconception has halachic implications. Since the mistaken practice of simply calling the (6:00-7:00am). month Cheshvan is so widespread, either Cheshvan or the two-word Mar Cheshvan is now Sundays: acceptable, post facto, if erroneously used in a legal document such as a get (Aruch Hashulchan, Class on hiatus, resumes 11/17. 8:00am Gemara study w/David Epstein. Even Ha’ezer 126:17). Mondays: th In Israel today, Cheshvan contains two Jewish holidays. On the 29 of Cheshvan is the holiday 8:00pm Siddur 101 series with Sara Frieberg, Rm. 3/4. of Sigd.
