By using the Stetson-Sleeve method we calculated the BPGB (bias for pre-ground beans) from -1 to +1 for each distribution. The higher the BPGB, the more likely a user of the distribution is buying his beans pre-ground. With lower values of BPGB, the distribution seems to cause bean-grinding. This can easily be validated when looking at the distributions at the bottom of the table above. It’s hardly surprising to find MacOS and mobile users there. 12/20 Distribution choice and preferred method of coffee making with a quick look at bean-grinding behavior among humans The average BPGB for the entire dataset is 0,39, so distributions with a BPGB below this are causing some levels of bean-grinding, and distributions with a higher score cause buying pre-ground. Also, we can conclude that Ubuntu is the only OS used by people who roast their own beans, which is of course fitting. Coffee making method by distribution choice We can easily conclude several things based on the graph above. - Aeropress and Moka pot users seem to favor Elementary, due to exquisite taste of these users - Pop! OS users seem to like French press, probably also because the preference towards good things. - Among instant coffee drinkers, Mint seems to be popular, for reasons. - Arch is a little over-presented in populations that do not drink coffee or drink really horrible coffee. This is highly surprising, as initial hypothesis would suggest something really obscure and painful rather than a nearly mundane choice, especially as all the Plasma users also grind their beans, probably in a highly configurable and fussy method.
