The project preparationactivities including the project planning and design is being carried out by the UPPWD through ProjectCo-coordinating Consultants (PCC). The project envisagesthe major augmentationof capacity as well as structural upgradation of important highway network in the stateof UP. As part of the project preparationactivities, the PCC has carried out the feasibility study for 18 corridors (slightly modified from 1 5 corridors identified by the SOS),based on various criteria including internal ratesof return, environmentalattributes of the area of influence, the likely social impactsof the proposed improvements,etc. The feasibility study identified 11 corridors (4 corridors comprising374 km in PhaseI and 7 corridors comprising 610 km of roads in Phase II) for upgradation to SH standards and 22 corridors for major maintenanceworks where in 808 km of road is in PhaseI and 1711 km in PhaseiI. International contractors selected through InternationalCompetitive Bidding shall carry out the implementation.The PWD shall be assistedin the supervisionof the constructionactivities by internationalconsultants. The construction duration of the project will be 2 years This report details the EnvironmentalManagement Plan for route-4, Katra - Bangarmau- Bilhaur. As part of the project preparation, this route has been divided into homogenous links. The proposed road cross-section(W3) after upgradationwill consistof two lanes-each3.5m wide, with 1.5 m hard shoulder and 1 m soft shoulder on each side necessitatinga formation width of at least 12 m.
