The 2014-2016 Report of the Chinese Taipei Section (CIROC) of the Combustion Institute 1. History In response to the spectacular economic growth and industrial developments and the mounting national energy and environmental issues, Professor H. H. Chiu urged the need for the organized national efforts to promote modern research and development activities aim to elevate the national capabilities and to enhance the participation in the international activities of global need. At this end, the plan for the establishment of such an organization was contemplated in March 1991 and the Combustion Institute of ROC (CIROC) was established in June 1992, and became a Section Member of the Combustion Institute in July 1992. Over the past years, CIROC has evolved to become an institute of the finest quality in Taiwan, promoted impressive institutional activities, and took strong initiatives in international programs ranging from participation and hosting international conferences. The institute which has been fortunate to have active members of the board headed by all previous and present Chairmans Dr. J.C. Yang (1992-1996), Dr. T.M. Liou (1996-2000), Dr. Y.P. Sue (2000-2004), Dr. Y.C. Chao (2004-2008), Dr. H.K. Ma (2008-2010), Dr. S.S. Shy (2010-2014), and T.H. Lin (2014-) currently has about 90 permanent members and more than 100 regular and student members, totaling about 200 active members from academia, industry, government and semi-government agencies of the nation. 2.
