Symphony musicians perform engaging and interactive concerts for students and teachers . This season, many of these mini- concerts will be pre-recorded and provided to school groups as video links to share with students on their own schedules . The Discovery Concert annually provides over 1,200 elementary, middle, and high school students, including homeschoolers, with opportunities to experience a free live symphonic performance . Due to the pandemic challenges, this season’s Discovery Concert will be provided to area schools and home school groups as a video link to the recording of the “America” Symphony Series concert, which features multimedia images above the orchestra that students are sure to enjoy from the safety of their classroom or home . Community Chords The 2021 Youth Concerto Competition will be presented jointly by the Augusta Symphony and Augusta University’s Department of Music on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the Maxwell Performing Arts Theater from 1 – 4 pm . The competition is open to students ages 10-18 residing in Georgia or South Carolina who are students of orchestral instruments including strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and piano . The overall winner will earn the opportunity to perform with the Augusta Symphony in a concert under the direction of Maestro Dirk Meyer . VETERANS OUTREACH Through a partnership with the Charlie Norwood VA veterans with pain, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic Medical Center Music Therapy program, Symphony stress disorder . Symphony musicians benefit as well by musicians perform at the VA hospitals, a Veteran Guitar building bridges with the community in which they perform Ensemble attends Symphony rehearsals, and symphony and experience the positive impact their craft has on the musicians play during Music-Assisted Group Meditation veterans and hospital staff .
