2020 POLICY DOCUMENT A Real Bruce Plan 2 WORKING TOGETHER FOR QUEENSLAND A REAL BRUCE PLAN WORKING TOGETHER FOR QUEENSLAND WORKING TOGETHER FOR QUEENSLAND A REAL BRUCE PLAN 1 Message from the Premier Our strong health response allows us to focus on our economic recovery including investing in key economic assets like the Bruce Highway - Queensland’s economic artery. My government has locked in at least $1 billion per year under our Bruce Highway Trust with the Federal Government. Right now, we are transforming the Bruce around Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Gympie and the Sunshine Coast with 33 projects underway, supporting thousands of regional jobs. While we continue to take the fight to Canberra for our fair share of funding on the Bruce, I am proud we are now delivering on our $1 billion per year Bruce Guarantee. That’s double the annual average under the former Newman - Frecklington Government, which shows the LNP’s unfunded promises this time can’t be trusted. Our Real Bruce Plan will guarantee a reliable pipeline of real and shovel ready projects. We’ll bolster our existing $12.6 billion 15 year plan by: 1. Progressing dual laning 2. Flood proofing the Bruce 3. Building the Second Bruce – an inland freight highway for Queensland that will take trucks off the Bruce 4. Reducing fatalities by 60% by 2030. The Bruce Trust brings together experts from peak bodies like the RACQ and QTA and will be expanded to include 6 extra representatives from communities along the Bruce north of Gympie to Cairns. Together, we can realise our long-term vision for the Bruce which will create local jobs and help our economy recover, while cutting travel times and making our national highway safer and easier to travel.
