Printed in the U.S.A. 4 palace theater letter from the chairman n my role as Chairman of the Board of the Palace Theater, I I have the pleasure of presiding over this beautiful and valued performing arts center and watching it grow each year. This year is particularly exciting, as it is our 15th Anniversary year! Fifteen years ago, a group of dedicated local and state leaders organized to restore and reopen this historic facility. After an extensive renovation, we welcomed our first audience to take in the visual splendors of the theater—and the mellifluous tones of Tony Bennett’s voice. Over the past fifteen years, we have welcomed close to two million people, held over 1900 events and presentations and served as the premier arts and cultural destination for the Greater Waterbury community and its surrounding towns. We have achieved a great deal in fifteen years, with still so much opportunity for growth ahead. In addition to serving as a performance venue, a cultural center, a reception facility for special events and a community gathering place, we also serve as the performance home for the Waterbury Arts Magnet School. It is a pleasure to watch the evolution of young performers as they work to hone their craft both on and off stage. And it is gratifying to see their names appear in our playbills, as they pursue careers in theater, and return to their home stage while on tour. The Palace is still growing, and we are so grateful to have the support of you, our valued patrons. Each time you attend a performance, or provide financial support, you help us further our mission of supporting the cultural and educational needs of our community. On behalf of the Board and the staff, I thank you, whether you are a 15-year supporter, or a first-time visitor. Welcome to the Palace! Sincerely, Peter J. Jacoby, MD, FACEP Chairman of the Board palace theater 7 8 palace theater letter from the ceo t is with great pleasure that I can announce the 2020-2021 IWebster Broadway Series! This upcoming season will be a richly colored and inspired one, taking us to places like Imperial Russia and modern Israel—with stops across several decades in the U.S.A.! Our goal each year is to create a season that brings the best of Broadway to our community—and, as always, the heart of our Webster Broadway Series is the pairing of these exciting titles with you, our devoted subscribers and patrons. The 2020-2021 season begins with the popular musical Waitress! Based on the 2007 Indie film of the same name, and filled with Sara Bareilles’ melodious songs, this hilarious and uplifting show reflects on friendship, dreams and love—along with a generous serving of pie! The Band’s Visit, the 10-time 2018 Tony Award-winning musical, follows an Egyptian band to a small town in Israel, and celebrates the ways in which music crosses boundaries to bring joy and understanding to people of very different backgrounds. The story of The Band’s Visit can serve as an inspiration to us all! On the heels of this season’s successful production of A Bronx Tale: The Musical, we are bringing the original piece and actor to Waterbury! This non-musical offering is Chazz Palminteri’s one-man show, A Bronx Tale, which is the basis for the film and musical of the same name. Mr. Palminteri brings to life his autobiographical coming of age story in a tour de force performance. If you loved the musical, you’ll be enthralled by his solo performance! What better way to celebrate our Beautiful Palace than with Beautiful: The Carole King Musical? Certain to capture our hearts, this superb and joyous production presents the famed singer-songwriter’s life and music as she develops into the voice of a generation. Next spring, the glorious sights and sounds of Anastasia will transport us from 1916 Russia to 1920’s Paris, as a young woman sets out to solve the mystery of her past. With over a dozen new songs joining those from the animated film version, the show deftly combines adventure, romance and history. This Broadway production originated at Connecticut’s Hartford Stage and we are delighted to bring it here. Grab your dancing shoes and kick off your summer with Summer: The Donna Summer Musical! This upbeat, lively show will not only get us ready for the warmer months with its “Hot Stuff” and exuberant music and dancing, but will also bring out the Disco Diva in all of us! With these and even more offerings to be added to our season soon, we hope that the 2020- 2021 Webster Broadway Series will see you back at the Palace, enjoying our Beautiful Season!
