Recovery Deployment List for Apollo Flights NASA JSC – Landing and Recovery Division (LRD) DATA SOURCES: Doc Stullken (throughout the Gemini and Apollo programs) compiled matrices listing all LRD branch personnel upon which he recorded any flight assignments they supported. When he retired, he provided those matrices to Dick Snyder, who collected data for Skylab and the Apollo/Soyuz Test Project (ASTP). That was the starting point for the following list. After moving that data into this lists format, each LRD representative (for which we had an e-mail address) was sent a list of their assignments along with any questions and were asked for verification of their assignments. There were several comments (and some rather interesting stories); however, there were actually not many discrepancies noted in the responses. Those identified discrepancies were corrected. Along with his comments, Andy Anderson also provided a copy of LRD Mission Assignments memoranda for Apollo 4 through Apollo 16. When comparing these with Doc Stullken’s data, a few discrepancies were noted. Individual feedback from those involved, was required to resolve these. Pre-Flight NASA Press Releases for some of the earlier flights were reviewed. They added some new assignees and information. That was added to this list. Since it was not possible to contact all LRD personnel, there may be remaining errors. However, based on the feedback already received, the list should be very accurate. The primary concern with the list is that there is still some incomplete information (e.g. specific ships to which some personnel were assigned and the functional responsibilities of some personnel assigned to the Primary Recovery Ship [PRS]).
