Xuereb, President Maltese Cardiac Society PUBLIC EVENT / OPEN CLINIC • 9th May 2018: • On the occasion of European Heart Failure Awareness Day 2018, • The Maltese Cardiac Society and • Health Promotion & Disease Prevention Directorate • in collaboration with Novartis • organized activities to increase awareness on Heart Failure in Malta amongst patients and the public. PUBLIC EVENT / OPEN CLINIC • The highlight of the activities were educational lectures at Mater Dei Hospital entitled : • `Heart Failure : The Multidisciplinary Team Approach` by Dr. Robert G. Xuereb, President Maltese Cardiac Society • `The Role of the Cardiologist in managing Heart Failure` by Dr. Alice May Moore, Resident Specialist, Department of Cardiology • `Educating our Heart Failure Patients – the role of the Heart Failure Nurse ` by Ms. Janet Caruana and Mr. Sheldon Attard, Heart Failure Clinic Nurses • `Can I exercise ?` by Ms. Joanne Vella, Physiotherapist in the Department of Cardiology Educational Lectures to Patients and Public Speaker Dr Robert G. Xuereb, President Maltese Cardiac Society Speaker Dr Alice May Moore, Resident Specialist Cardiology Department, Mater Dei Hospital Educational Lectures Speaker Ms Joanne Vella, Physiotherapist Speakers Ms Janet Caruana and Mr Sheldon Attard, Heart Failure Clinic Nurses PUBLIC EVENT / OPEN CLINIC • Members of the Malta Medical Students Association assessed the risk of Heart Failure by checking weight and body mass index, waist circumference, blood sugar levels and blood pressure. • The Health Promotion Unit were also on site to promote the various educational programmes available and provide advise on the importance of weight control, diet, exercise, smoking cessation, diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol control.
