Over his 35 year career, he was the recipient of numerous awards, including several Emmy Awards, a Writers Guild Award, the DuPont-Columbia Citation, and the George Foster Peabody Award. He served as a combat correspondent with the U.S. Army's 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam, where he was also awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge. Hirsh is the author of several works of non-fiction, including The Liberators: America's Witnesses to the Holocaust (New York: Bantam Books, 2010). Scope Note The collection consists of Michael Hirsh's original manuscripts, photographs, research, correspondence, and proofs related to the publication of The Liberators: America's Witnesses to the Holocaust. The second series in the collection consists of materials related to Hirsh's time as a television and film producer and writer, with a concentration on the series M*A*S*H. This series also contains materials related to the history of television, as well as assorted scripts and screenplays.
