Last season the Association had 68 sides from 16 clubs, which means we have gone under 70 teams for the first time in a few seasons. Congratulations to all the Premiers & Runners Up and to the individual trophy winners. Thank you to our Secretary Michael Mooney for all his assistance throughout the season. It's a hard job and Michael did an exemplary job. A big thank you to Allan Lofthouse who correlated the Association results. Some captains need to ensure their results are entered correctly and on time to make Allan's job easier, but he did a sterling job with that hindrance. Thanks to Lance Taylor for his stewardship of the Association finances and thanks to our Vice Presidents Dean Martin and Adrian Steffani for their help & guidance throughout the year and to all the others members of the Executive my sincere thanks for all your efforts over the past season. My thanks to the Junior Association and the Grade club for their continued support. I must express my thanks to Dave Robinson, President of the umpires Association and Lance Taylor the umpires delegate for their co-operation and support during the season. This season we entered a Martin Shield team only for the representative season and they performed very well making the quarter finals, well done boys, we would have had a Telegraph Shield team but there was no competition. Last but not least my thanks to Sutherland Shire Council for their assistance with the grounds during the season, especially the Parks & Recreation officers Kirin Lindop, Daniel Ristic & Emi Skopal. We wish Kirin & Daniel all the best in their new careers since leaving Council. In conclusion, I hope you enjoy the off season and hope to see you all back for season 2015/16 Noel Taplin President SECRETARYS REPORT Having had the opportunity to read the reports of Noel Taplin and Allan Lofthouse. There is nothing I would add regarding the season just completed. Thank you for the work put in by all committee members to ensure that the SSCA competitions are run smoothly for the benefit of all players. Your commitment and contributions are very much appreciated. Once again there were some minor disruptions while Council carried out necessary ground improvements as part of the ongoing 5 year plan in conjunction with the SSJCA and Sutherland Council. The works at Kareela are now complete and we look forward to experimenting with an artificial outfield in the upcoming season. Thank you to our major sponsor Kookaburra, to Sutherland Council for their on-going support of cricket in the Shire. Special thanks to Tom Croucher for assistance with Cricket On-Line and liaison with Council. Lance Taylor Davyd Berry Treasurer Auditor SSCA RECORDER AND COMPETITION MANAGER’S REPORT The 2014/15 Sutherland Shire Cricket Association (SSCA) season got underway in August with the nomination & grading of 69 teams from the 16 clubs currently affiliated with the SSCA which was a drop of 6 teams from the previous season. There were 11 grades comprising 7 X 7 teams & 4 X 5 teams in the competitions when play got underway on the 13th September, 2014. However, the unfortunate withdrawal of a team from the B5 competition after only two rounds saw the SSCA having to fall back on the wisdom of our “trusty” Secretary, Michael Mooney to formulate a complete restructure of those competitions from the B5 grade downwards. This ended up seeing a 10 grade structure of the competitions with 9 X 7 team competitions from the A1’s down to B7’s & with the remaining 5 teams being in the C1’s competition. Although some teams had queries as to the reasoning for this & could not completely understand this it was extremely unfortunate, but absolutely necessary!!! The late registration of players after the nominations were received in August 2014 still remains a problem & does cause quite a bit of extra work for those people concerned with the monitoring, approval & (now) the registering of these players into their correct grades compliant with the player’s abilities. The process we adopted this season of all late registrations being completed by the SSCA will continue into the new season. Whilst there is significantly more work involved, it is the only way that we can effectively monitor late registrations being registered into correct grades. At the end of the season there were a total of 1289 players registered in the 68 teams that completed the 2014/2015 SSCA season, a slight drop of around 125 players from the 2013/2014 season but similarly consistent with the drop of the 6 teams from this previous season. Keeping in mind that there were some teams in this seasons competitions that comprised well over 20 players registered in them, perhaps the clubs could look to reduce the numbers of players in these teams comparable to the individual player’s abilities, to try to increase the number of teams & therefore to increase the number of the grades that the SSCA can have each season. By having players in grades compatible to their respective abilities this would even out each competition & would see teams having a greater chance of succeeding in more competitive grades. Throughout the season there were of nine (9) forfeitures of matches across the grades – this is a very disturbing trend for the Committee to observe. There were also eleven (11) duty failures throughout the season that saw a number of clubs & their teams heavily penalised – the Committee takes no pleasure in penalising teams and clubs in this way however if all clubs are proactive they can address the problem of players not being available and prevent these occurrences happening again in coming seasons.
