We spent a very interesting afternoon in February listening to Anita Smith tell us how she helped to re-build the children’s ward at Bansang Hospital, from making the bricks to building the walls, putting the roof on and furnishing with beds and equipment. In March we spent an enjoyable social afternoon, as those of you who attended will recall well. Makes a change to be able to talk to one another without being rude to anyone who was giving us a talk! April will find us listening to Natasha Thompson “How can I keep from singing”. I think myself we’ll finish up singing ourselves, if not in the meeting or on the way home if only in our heads. May will be our Bring & Buy which gives us all a chance to get rid of items that we cannot find any use for and hope that its what someone else wants or needs. See you at our next meeting. More people took part than in previous years which meant the teams cleaning the various villages were able to cover more verges and footpaths without taking any longer. Because of this we uncovered a few large and bulky items that would otherwise have remained in the hedgerows. Thanks too to the various members of the community who were unable to join in on the day but who “did their bit” in the week or so before and after the main event. Your efforts have not gone un-noticed. The litter was collected by SNC who also loaned us some litter picking equipment for the weekend. Nominations have now closed for the forthcoming parish council elections. There were six nominations, all for existing councillors, for the seven vacancies so at the time of writing it is assumed that these will be elected automatically. Community Speed Watch Unfortunately the Speed Reduction Scheme that we have operated in conjunction with the Police for the last 3 years is being terminated. Northants County Council have withdrawn funding for the project from the 1st April 2011 and the previously announced training session has been cancelled. The Parish Plan committee are still looking at alternative sources of funding for a permanent speed control solution to operate along Butchers Lane. This issue could be a matter of life and death and we will try all means to find funding.
