B Walker, Black Nymph, directing him to take charge of Spanish schooner Ninfer, off Accra, and deliver her to Mr McCauley, Sierra Leone, after having made a list of everything on board. Lieut. Brazen, to 9.2.1826 take charge of Brigantine Black Nymph under Capt Willes’ Command to cruise against vessels on Cape Coast trading illegally in slaves. Order to keep in touch with H.M.S. Brazen, but in the event of their becoming separated, instructing him to make any capture, bearing in mind the Slave treaties with Foreign Powers and avoiding any breach with these terms. Order to keep himself and crew healthy. E Order headed ‘H.M.S. Brazen’ at Sea Lat. 3.40 N. Long.8.49 5.3.1826 W from Capt Willes to Lieut Walker ordering him to proceed to Sierra Leone with parcel of letters and Schooner VOGEL’s papers, as the Vogel had parted company, the Master having refused to acknowledge receipt of the French and Dutch papers found on board. Further ordering Walker that if he came across the Vogel to fall in with her and hasten her to Sierra Leone for adjudication in case of finding Lieut Wakefield there on Prize Iberia, and then await Captain’s arrival. F Order from Capt Willes to Lieut B Walker to search for 29.3.1826 Commodore Bullen, calling first at Accra and endeavour to find out his exact position; if unsuccessful, he was to proceed to West Bay Princes Island, cruise between it and Accra until meeting Capt Willes, and to meet the MAIDSTONE as early as possible, to whom accompanying dispatches should be delivered. Lyons of H.M.S. Blonde. 4 1831/35. HMS Barham, Wm Edmonds, late 2nd Lieut. of HMS Barham?, WH Carew, late Commander and 4th Lieut. of HMS Barham, stating that Capt. Pigot had been a most able and conscientious Captain to his officers and the ship’s Company. 4d Hol. letter headed “Dockyard, Chatham”, addressed to Capt. 7 Aug 1835 BW Walker at Oakley House, Eye, Suffolk, signed M Dixon, on his promotion (Reference to the King). 4e Copy memo from His Highness the Captain Pasha to Admiral 20 Oct 1838 Sir Robert Stopford stating that Capt. Walker is acting to his entire satisfaction, and the Pasha has conveyed his views to the Sultan. Expresses hope that Walker will be allowed to remain for 2 years, and that in any case he can remain until the Government’s permission is obtained. 4f Copy memo from Admiral Sir Robert Stopfod, Admiral & 21 Oct 1838 Commander-in-Chief of Her Brittanic Majesty’s Ships and Vessels in the Mediterranean Station, to His Highness Achmed Frozir Pasha, acknowledging his letter of approval of Capt Walker’s conduct whilst in command of His Highness’s Flag Ship. Undertaking by the Admiral to forward his request to have Capt Walker attached to the Turkist Fleet for 2 years to the Government. Capt Walker to remain until Turkish Fleet returns to Dardanelles or as long as the British Squadron stays there. 4g 2 copies of letter headed ‘Admiralty’ to Capt BW Walker, 10 Dec 1838 signed ‘J Barrow’ giving the Queen’s permission, through Lord Palmerston, to enter the Sultan’s service. 4h 2 copies of letter headed ‘Foreign Office’ signed ‘Palmerston’ 15 Dec 1838 re the allocation of Capt Walker, Commanders Legard and Massie and Lieut Foote to the Naval Service of the Sultan. 4i Document of modifications in the Shipman’s Tariff brought Dec 1836 about by representation of Lord Durham. 4j Document headed ‘To Service on Lower Deck’, including Undated instructions on ‘Breaching’ and ‘To make Quill Tubes’. 4k Document headed ‘Nature, Weight, Length and Size of Undated Breechings’ on one side, and on the back ‘Ranges, weight, length and charges of guns and cannonades”. ‘Vanguard’s; orders and letters 4l Memo to Cmdr B W Walker headed ‘Caledonia in Malta 24 May 1837 Harbour’, signed by Admiral Jos. Rowley stating that the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty had directed him to send Capt Thomas Fellowes home, because of the ‘Pembroke’ going ashore, and asking Cmdr Walker to take temporary command of the ‘Vanguard’. 4m Document giving Report of punishment on board HMS 1 April to 30 ‘Vanguard’ between 1 April and 30 June 1837. June 1837 4n Order headed ‘Caledonia at Sea’ off Girgenti (Sicily), signed 9 Jul 1837 by Admiral Rowley, re the Contractor for Ice and Malta’s request for Ship of War to be sent to Riporto di Mascali to take on board a cargo of snow.
