The writer of this paper is discussing about the main characters who have different character and behavior. In completing the research, the writer uses the library research method by read the novel, papers, and searching on internet to find information about the character. the writer also uses the descriptive qualitative, the finding that the writer gained here is that view the types of the main characters from the novel . Key Words: Literature, Novel, Main Character UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA ABSTRAK Kertaskarya yang berjudul “A Description of Main Character in J.K.Rowling’sNovel : Harry Potter and the Philopher’s Stone” ini membahas tentang tokoh – tokoh utama yang terdapat di dalam novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Penulis dalam tulisan ini membahas tentang tokoh – tokohutama yang memilikiciri – ciri yang berbeda. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan metode kepustakaan, yaitu denganmembaca novel, kertas – kertaskarya yang berisi informasi yang berkaitan dengan judul kertas karya, danmencari di internet untukmenemukaninformasimengenaitokoh – tokohutama. Penulis juga menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, penemuan yang dikemukakan dalam tulisan ini adalah tentang ciri – ciri dari para pelaku atau tokoh – tokoh utama yang terdapat dalam novel tersebut.
