CHIEF DAN GEORGE Southeast Area of the District of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Tansi - Hello and how are you? CHIEF DAN GEORGE 1899 - 1981 A chief of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, a Coast Salish band whole reserve is located on Burrard Inlet in the southeast area of the District of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Once again we are called upon as a society to respond to something which has had a global impact.....the killing of George Floyd. Through one of the Indigenous teachings contained in the Medicine Wheel, we come to understand that ALL Nations of the world are created equal. The circle implies that we have an equal voice and that ALL voices matter. The colors of the wheel represent the Nations of people....all races....ALL of us....and together we must solve our problems in a spirit of kindness and solidarity. How? Let each of us, look at our own perceptions of those who are different from us, look into our own hearts and be reminded of Chief George's words..."The heart never knows the color of the skin". Let's be honest with ourselves and have the courage to acknowledge where we can improve and start to make the shift to a level of greater acceptance, greater non-judgement, greater kindness, greater understanding and ultimately, a great love for ALL. Let's give it a try. Maybe we can take that mountain down. Stay positive, strong and healthy.....keep moving forward. Joanne Jingle dress dancers honour George Floyd at site where he was killed "This kind of unity that's bringing people together, it's the kind of thing that's going to help us battle systems of oppression," said Skjefte.
