(46cm.) diam. Francois Briot (circa 1550-1616), born at Damblain in Lorraine but, as a Huguenot, was forced to flee to M ontbeliard in 1579. He was engraver to the Montbeliard mint and is renowned for his 'Temperantia Dish'; cf. an example sold in these Rooms, 13 May 1976, lot 53 Cf. Hanns Ulrich Haedeke, Zinn, 1973, pI. 135, which illustrates an example in the Museum flir Kunsthandwerk, Dresden .
