His prose is a self-conscious artistic medium that mimics the popular manner but in fact represents something other, something quite alien to the old art of storytelling. Origianlly, I thought I might only recommend the latter half of this collection, but if potential readers are interested in seeing how a great writer evolves, then I would definitely recommend reading the collection in entirety, and in order. The one thing I loved about that class was the literature references and how they defined and impacted the time.
