From day one it became clear exactly what the Football Club actually stood for. In many ways its’ values embodied everything that my Dad held dear. Honesty, togetherness, integrity, dignity, traditionalism, family & an overwhelming desire to fight your corner & look after your own. In many ways I was oblivious to most of the relationships that he’d developed with other supporters as I went about my job with the team. Latterly, after a fantastic 10 years, & having relinquished my position within the club as a result of Dad’s ever deteriorating condition (that I never made him aware of as he’d of hated that), I realised just how strong a bond he’d developed with both the Club & the people associated with it. Even in his final months when he was too ill to attend matches I’d sit with him every Saturday afternoon & keep @WealdstoneProg - TWITTER [email protected] him updated of every bit of action of every game via either a Twitter feed or some other form of notification & I’m convinced he understood whatever I was telling him be it good or bad ! Even in the last 3 weeks of his life in his Carehome the door to his room had his picture on it complete with his Stones scarf & the self same scarf adorned one of the pictures in his room. Dad loved his football & he loved genuine people - which is why I know he felt so at home & happy amongst you all. So, from my perspective, I’d like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my Dad (& me) feel so at home here for so many years. A special club with special people. My family & I thank you all for allowing my Dad the privilege of being a part of The Wealdstone Family’ - Mark Wealdstone FC (2000) Ltd.
