
<p>Alligator Soup and Extended Day Winter 2017 </p><p>Alligator Soup Serves </p><p>Kindergarten, Grades One through Six and Allen-Stevenson siblings </p><p>Calendar </p><p>The program operates in three sessions: Fall, from September 12 through December 15; Winter, from January 3 through March 17; and Spring, from April 3 through June 2. </p><p>Mini Soup and Extended Day </p><p>Mini Soup, for Grades 1- 4, is short-term after school care, and Extended Day, for all grades, is long-term after school care. Kindergartners may attend Mini Soup and Extended Day after dismissal from an Alligator Soup class. A child not picked up at dismissal is sent to Mini Soup. A child registered for Extended Day or not picked up after Mini Soup or Alligator Soup is sent to Extended Day. The child’s school account is charged for Mini Soup, the fourth time a family uses it, $10 for the first 15 minutes and for each additional 15 minutes or part thereof, and for Extended Day, $12 an hour or part thereof. A parent can arrange in advance for Mini Soup. Extended Day can be arranged by day, by week, or by trimester and different rates apply. Financial aid is not available for this low-cost program. </p><p>Days of Operation </p><p>Alligator Soup meets Monday through Friday, including Parent-Teacher Conference days. There is no Alligator Soup when School dismisses at Noon or on School holidays. A snack is provided. Dismissal at Allen-Stevenson is from the sidewalk. Please do not keep your son waiting. </p><p>Grades One through Six </p><p>On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, classes meet from 3:45PM to 5:00PM unless otherwise noted. On Wednesdays and Fridays, classes run from dismissal until the time given in the course description. Snack and supervision are provided from dismissal until classes begin. Dismissal at Allen-Stevenson is from the sidewalk. Please do not keep your son waiting. </p><p>A boy who is registered for an Alligator Soup class will automatically go to the class after school unless his homeroom teacher has a written note excusing him from Alligator Soup. </p><p>Registration Procedures </p><p>Registration opens online on Wednesday, November 30th. Registration is only online through the Allen-Stevenson website. After Friday, January 13th, Alligator Soup registration will be finalized and no further changes to your son’s registration will be permitted. </p><p>A class with insufficient enrollment will be canceled. A class with excessive enrollment </p><p>will be settled by a random drawing. Parents are contacted on Friday, December 16, ONLY if a class has been oversubscribed or canceled. </p><p>A boy's student account is billed for all Alligator Soup fees. Fees for classes a boy adds </p><p>or drops by January 13 are prorated. Please call Hydee Bressler, Director of Finance & Operations, for information. </p><p>Monday </p><p>Parkour </p><p>Grades 1-4 <br>Joel Rappelfeld’s Kids Action Sports Fee: $246 </p><p>In this program, we mix conditioning, gymnastics, balance, teamwork, confidence building and fun. Each week Joel's Kids Action Sports coaches will begin the class by doing warm-ups and some strengthening to prepare for the course ahead. Then we will take the boys to the park, weather permitting, and create a manageable obstacle course for them to conquer. Positive thinking is always stressed and success is guaranteed, at any level. Dismissal is at 5:00pm. </p><p>Smart Kids Invest & MineCraft Rob McCallum </p><p></p><ul style="display: flex;"><li style="flex:1">Grades 4-6 </li><li style="flex:1">Fee: $465 </li></ul><p>Boys play a game that tracks the stock market in real time over many weeks with $100,000 to invest and a credit extension of $100,000. They examine free market activities, stock sectors, mutual funds, and theories of individual stock picking. Boys will also have an opportunity to enter the educational World of Minecraft to collaborate and create a replicable business model. Teams will present their world with a budget or cost savings. Creativity and innovation is key to their prosperity. Dismissal is at 5:00pm. </p><p>Cooking Science with Tastebuds! </p><p>Grades 1&2 <br>Tastebuds Kitchen Fee: $352 </p><p>Calling all kid detectives! Taste Buds Kitchen’s Cooking Science is a dynamic hands-on cooking class that is built around the natural phenomena that occur in cooking. Your budding chef will be kept on his toes as he uncovers the secrets in everyday recipes in this hands-on after school cooking club. Dismissal at 5:15pm from the School. </p><p>Skateboard Decorating </p><p>Grades 1-4 <br>Alex Exposito Fee: $440 </p><p>Boys decorate real skateboard decks, and large and small canvases, with a variety of painting and craft techniques. They create crazy critters out of wood, fabric, and yarn. Dismissal is at 5:00pm. </p><p>Just Dance with Prof. Calcavecchia! </p><p>Grades 1-4 <br>Fabby Calcavecchia <br>Fee: $440 </p><p>Inspired by the Wii game, Just Dance, have fun moving and shaking to the hits of today! We'll start with a warm up activity, some rhythmic movement, Pilates stretching and standing yoga poses. Then, we'll explore "Just Dance" movements with choreography that is easy to follow and songs chosen by the boys, themselves. Finally, it'll be time to cool down and relax with some gentle stretching, and, to celebrate the end of the session, the boys will put on a brief performance to which everyone will be </p><p>invited. Children will take Kodu apple picking, program Kodu to play hide and seek, and even help Kodu find his way out of a maze! Students will even create games such as Pac-man, space alien invaders, and their very own superhero adventure game! Students will have loads of fun all while learning to code and exercising critical thinking, creative expression, and logical reasoning skills. The Mystery of Magic Joel Rappelfeld’s Kids Action Sports Grades 1-4 Fee: $338 </p><p>Be part of the mystical and exciting world of magic. Boys will have the opportunity to write, film, and edit their own television shows and then will work together to produce a finished product that they can proudly show off to friends and family alike! They start with simple folds and designs such as mountain and valley folds and bird base and move on to more complex techniques such as modular origami and tessellations and even learn to design their own folds.
