INTRODUCTION The Government of Tamil Nadu is implementing several schemes for Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes, Denotified Communities and Minorities to help them advance socially, economically and educationally to be on par with other developed communities. The details of schemes for the development of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes, Denotified Communities and Minorities, the criteria to avail the benefits, the officials to be contacted are all given in this Citizen’s Charter. As per 2011 census, the total population of Tamil Nadu is 7,21,38,958. Two thirds of this population belongs to Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities. 95% of Muslim minorities are included in the list of Backward Class Muslim. Among Christian Minorities nearly 80% are included in the list of Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes. 2. RESERVATION Reservation plays a major role in the advancement of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified communities. It improves their economic and educational status by enabling them to secure appointments in services under the State Government and admission in educational institutions. The percentage of reservation for various communities is as follows:- 1 Backward Classes 26.5% 2 Backward Class Muslims 3.5 % 3 Most Backward Classes / Denotified Communities 20 % 4 Scheduled Castes 18% 5 Scheduled Tribes 1% TOTAL 69% 1 The respective Taluk head quarters Deputy Tahsildars are the competent authority to issue community certificates to Backward Classes, Backward Class Muslims, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities. The list of Backward Classes, Backward Class Muslims, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities are furnished in the Appendix I. 3. KALLAR RECLAMATION SCHOOLS For the educational advancement of the Denotified communities, particularly the Piramalai Kallar Community, 295 Government Kallar Reclamation Schools are functioning under the control of this Department in Madurai, Theni and Dindigul Districts. The details of Kallar Reclamation Schools and strength of students as of 2019-20, are as follows: Sl. At present the English medium classes are extended upto 5th standard and 784 children are studying in the current academic year. They were subsequently continued in UKG class so as to complete their Kindergarten (KG) education. 2 The Details of the Schools with KG Classes Sl.
