It would be highly appreciated if the present letter and its annex could be circulated as a document of the Security Council. At 2100 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group stole a car, licence plate No. 194350, that had been placed at the disposal of Colonel Sabri al-Khalaf, Engineer, near the military petrol station in Hirista. 2. At 2120 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group opened fire on the command headquarters of a detachment of border guards in Yabrud. 3. At 2200 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group opened fire on a law enforcement checkpoint in Irbin, killing Corporal Ayham As‘ad. 4. At 2200 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group detonated two explosive devices in Hirista. 5. At 2200 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group opened fire on a detachment of military police in Qatana from the direction of the adjacent gardens. 6. At 2300 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group detonated two noise bombs, the first in Nahr Street and the second west of the schools near the Thum roundabout, and opened random fire in the streets to alarm the population. 7. At 2320 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group detonated an explosive device and opened random fire near the Anas ibn Malik Mosque. 8. At 2230 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group opened fire on a law enforcement checkpoint in Tallat al-Sultan-Qatana. 9. At 0130 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire on the Huwayjah border guard post (post No. 149). 10. At 1000 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire on Sergeant Abdulrazzaq al-Faraj while he was driving near the Basil roundabout, opposite the Christian cemetery, and then opened fire on a law enforcement patrol vehicle that came to his assistance. 11. At 1100 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire on law enforcement personnel in Irbin, wounding two officers, including Lieutenant Colonel Ghiyath Sulayman. 12. At 1200 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire on law enforcement personnel in Nashabiyah. 13. At 1600 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire on a law enforcement checkpoint near the Ibb bridge, wounding two officers. 14. In the city of Duma, a civilian, Ahmad Sayhan al-Hadid, 43, was struck and killed by a bullet in the abdomen fired from an unknown source while driving his car in the town of Utaya. His body was taken to the Nur Hospital. 2 12-44240 S/2012/386 15. In the city of Hirista, an armed terrorist group stole a Government-owned motorcycle, licence plate No. 4340, belonging to the Rif Dimashq water authority, from its driver, Ayman Qaddad, in Hirista-Ku‘. 16. In the city of Hirista, unidentified persons stole a police car, an Opel, licence plate No. 67055 (Damascus), and abducted its driver, a police officer named Samir Aqil. The assailants abandoned him unharmed after taking his police identity card, his police driver’s licence and his revolver. 17. The body of an unidentified man in his thirties was found west of the highway. It was taken to the Mujtahid Hospital. 18. The body of an unidentified woman, partially devoured by animals, was found behind the free zone in Adra town. It was taken to the Mujtahid Hospital. 19. A car, an Opel Omega, licence plate No. 665229, belonging to Damascus Fuels and assigned to a civilian, Ziyad al-Turk, for his use, was stolen from in front of his home. 20. In the town of Rankus, an armed terrorist group consisting of seven individuals abducted a teacher, Amirah Khamis, from her home in the town of Hawsh Arab and took her to an unknown destination. 21. In the city of Darayya, a civilian, Abdulhakim Habib al-Saqa, born 1961, was shot and killed in Shamiyat Street by three individuals armed with Kalashnikov rifles. 22. The mangled body of an unidentified individual was found in a disused building in the town of Ghizlaniyah. 23. The bodies of two unidentified individuals were found in a disused building on the Damascus-Tall road. 24. In the town of Kanakir, army checkpoints came under heavy fire between 0100 and 0300 hours. There were no injuries. 25. A civilian, Abdulrahman Mahmud, born 1975, was found dead of a bullet wound in the chest. The body had been dumped beside the Omari Mosque in Mu‘addamiyah. 26. A civilian, Ala ibn Khalid Lahu, born 1988, was carried to the Ridwan Hospital mortally wounded from a bullet wound in the head. The body was subsequently removed from the hospital by armed individuals. 27. An armed terrorist group abducted a civilian, Ahmad Judat al-Najjar, born 1982, from his home in the town of Malihah. The victim was employed by a software firm. 28. In Marj Sultan, a microbus, licence plate No. 896630 (Damascus), belonging to the General Establishment for Poultry, was stolen by a terrorist group consisting of three armed individuals while it was carrying a number of employees of the Establishment. 29. An armed terrorist group set up roadblocks and opened fire in Duma. 12-44240 3 S/2012/386 Damascus governorate 30. At 2215 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group detonated an explosive device in the office of the mukhtar in Mash‘ar al-Ulwan in Qabun. 31. At 2330 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group opened random fire in the streets of Maydan. 32. At 0515 hours, an explosive device placed on the pavement of the southern ring road was discovered. An army engineers patrol was summoned, but before it had arrived on the scene the device exploded, incinerating a police car that had stopped nearby and slightly injuring two police officers. 33. An armed terrorist group created disturbances and caused damage in Ashmar Square in Maydan. 34. An armed terrorist group set up a roadblock in the main street of Tall, on the side leading to Damascus. 35. An armed terrorist group set up a roadblock on the Qadam-Assali road. Dar‘a governorate 36. At 2000 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group abducted Warrant Officer Adnan al-Abbud from his home in the town of Nu‘aymah. 37. At 2115 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group opened fire on a law enforcement checkpoint in the middle of the town of Harrah and on the mosque checkpoint. 38. At 2200 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group opened fire on law enforcement checkpoints in Khirbat Ghazalah, wounding a woman. 39. At 2220 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group opened fire on law enforcement checkpoints in Da‘il, wounding one officer. 40. At 2230 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group opened fire on a law enforcement checkpoint in the town of Nasiriyah, wounding one officer. 41. At 2300 hours on 26 May 2012, an armed terrorist group attacked a law enforcement checkpoint in the town of Jizah, killing Sergeant Sulayman Muhammad, Private Basil Muhammad, Staff Sergeant Ali Muhanna, Staff Sergeant Ali al-Husayn, Staff Sergeant Ammar al-‘Atiki and Sergeant Na’il Ibrahim and wounding another officer. 42. At 0330 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire from among some demonstrators on the checkpoint at the Ghabaghib post. 43. At 0600 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire on law enforcement personnel near the military petrol station at the southern Uthman entrance. 44. At 0900 hours, an armed terrorist group deployed in the streets of Hujjah and compelled people at gunpoint to open their places of business, threatening them with death and firing in the air to terrify the population. 45. At 1000 hours, an armed terrorist group shot and killed an unidentified civilian. His body was found on the Dar‘a-Muzayrib road, near the railway line. 4 12-44240 S/2012/386 46. Also at 1000 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire on a law enforcement checkpoint in Khirbat Ghazalah. 47. At 1100 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire on the home of retired Chief Warrant Officer Nazim al-Shukr in Ghabaghib. 48. At 1200 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire on the home of a woman teacher, Haifa’ al-Shukr, in Ghabaghib. 49. At 1200 hours, an armed terrorist group invaded the Muzayrib cattle farm and stole 15 head of cattle, two tractors and a large quantity of feed. 50. At 1330 hours, an armed terrorist group opened fire on law enforcement checkpoints in Khirbat Ghazalah for a second time, wounding four civilians. 51. At 1400 hours, an armed terrorist group ambushed a food delivery vehicle belonging to the law enforcement forces on the road between Najih and Buwayr, killing Lieutenant Rabi‘ Harba, Corporal Muhammad Bakur, and Conscripts Safuk al-‘Isa and Ammar al-‘Awdah, and wounding two other officers.
