I am sure I speak for all Staff when I say how impressed I was with the enthusiasm, participation and cooperation of so many students throughout the day. CONGRATULATIONS to BRADMAN HOUSE for winning the Carnival holding off a fast finishing FRASER house in Second place. They were closely followed by Newcombe (3rd) and then Cuthbert house in 4th. CONGRATULATIONS also go to the Jennifer Hamshaw who broke the 14 year girls Breast stroke record in a time of 40.35 seconds: Age Boys Girls 12 Tilly S 13 Jack J Chloe B 14 Billie W Carly H 15 Ben G Sinovai R 16 Tom B / Spencer S Amellia Jones W 17 + John R Olivia G Many thanks to the following staff who are our House Patrons for 2018: Bradman Mr Kirkland Fraser Mr Sassi Cuthbert Mr Condon/Mr Wiblen Newcombe Mr Wallace Our House Patrons are supported by a wonderful group of Sporting House Captains and Vice Captains and I would also like to acknowledge their efforts in motivating our students at the carnival. I look forward to working with you at our upcoming sporting events. I would also like to give a special thank you to our enthusiastic Teachers, for their efforts in making this day a success. Thank you. Well done Year 12 for your spirited participation on the day. This was clearly evident all day and in the Staff vs. Year 12 Relay; however youthful exuberance was no match for the talent and experience of both of the Staff teams that blew the students out of the water. Finally, good luck to all swimmers who will be representing our school at the Zone Swimming Carnival at Lismore on Monday February 26. The Rivers Secondary College, Kadina High Campus has a proud history of achievement. We continually aim to provide quality education to develop the individual talents, interests and abilities of our students to give them the capability and confidence to succeed in the 21st century. We are a co-educational, comprehensive high school, seeking always to provide our students with the opportunities to acquire the knowledge, understanding, skills and values for productive and rewarding lives. Our facilities include a fully operational Trade Training Centre. The Trade Training Centre included an upgrade of several million dollars to both Hospitality and Metals. The school gymnasium funded through the Premier Sporting grants is fully operational. Students and their parents have many expectations of education. It is our aim to fulfill these expectations. These facilities continue to give our students new and exciting experiences. A covered outdoor learning area has been constructed against the art classrooms allowing additional outdoor covered learning areas for both art classes and SVET classes. A recent refurbishment of our Music rooms now offeres the highest standards in the performing arts. We have caring, experienced and well-qualified teachers, who are committed to encouraging personal excellence enhanced by our supportive student welfare and discipline system. Welcome to our new Deputy Principal CALENDAR Mrs Tracy Mcgrath Zone Swimming Carnival 26 February I would like to introduce myself to the wider Kadina High Community. My name is Tracy McGrath and I am the new Deputy Principal. I have Year 7 Excursion come from Illawarra Sports High School in Wollongong, on the South 27 February Coast of NSW. I have been a Deputy Principal for 1 year (2017) and relieving in the position for 8 months prior to that. My faculty area is School Photos Personal Development, Health and Physical Education where I was 1 March a Head Teacher for 10 Years at James Busby High School in Green Valley, Liverpool. Clean Up Australia Day March 4 I have 2 children aged 10 and 13 who both attend public schools. Year 6 into 7 Information I am a strong advocate for Public Education and maintain high Evening expectations of my students, and am really looking forward to March 7 working with all the fantastic staff at TRSC Kadina High. The school community has made me feel extremely welcome and I am settling in School Photo Catch Up Day quickly. My goal over the next few years is to raise the profile of TRSC March 8 Kadina High Campus in our community and show all the amazing things that are happening in our school both through the staff and Year 7 Vaccinations students. Year Advisors 2018 Dear Parents / Guardians, I would like to introduce myself, Mr Ricki Wiblen, as the 2018 Year 7 Year Advisor. I am a passionate Mathematics teacher at The Rivers Secondary College Kadina High Campus. I am also a qualified PDHPE teacher and have a strong passion for all things sport. I am pleased to announce that the year group has transitioned successfully into High School and are settling in nicely. Our SRC is a group of students elected by their fellow peers to represent all students in our campus. The students are actively involved in opportunities to organise ways for students to participate in campus life. The SRC works democratically to represent the student body in school decision-making. Our students work together, with support and guidance from Ms Clifford, to improve school life and to contribute students' ideas. After the assembly the newly elected students spent time brainstorming how they would like to contribute to the campus in coming months. Special guest speaker was Associate Professor Adele Wessell. Ms Wessell works for Southern Cross University, where she is the Bachelor of Arts Course Coordinator in the School of Arts and Social Sciences, and Associate Professor in History. Her research is in the field of food history and she is one of the convenors of the Regional Food Network and co-editor of Locale: Pacific Journal of Regional Food Studies. ONSTAGE Exursion Sydney Year 12 Drama Students from Kadina and Richmond River Campuses attended ONSTAGE at the Seymour Centre, Uni of Sydney, which is the Showcase event of the best Individual and Group Drama HSC Drama Performances from 2017. The event was held over two evenings and showcased many amazing performances as well as the best design and critical analysis projects displayed in the foyer. The students also visited NIDA for a 90 minute physical theatre workshop and a backstage tour; Sydney Theatre Company for a backstage tour in their props, set and costume departments; Belvoir Street Theatre company for a private screening of 'Stolen' (a compulsory text) and a 2 hour Group Performance workshop; and finally the Art Gallery of NSW for the year 12 Visual Arts Showcase ArtXpress. Of course there was much sightseeing and walking over the three day excursion. It was an exciting and fruitful three days of fun,insightful learning and adventure. Mr Sassi Remember to check our Facebook page for up to date events and annoucments Year 10 – Student Learning Portfolios During 2018, Year 10 students will be in required to complete a learning portfolio. The learning portfolios help create a smoother transition for students into Year 11 & 12 while providing the opportunity for students to display evidence of learning, explore possible career choices based on their personal strengths, develop skills in communication, decision making, organisation, self- discipline, reflection and interview skills. Students will be required to create a personal portfolio consisting of samples of their learning. One item is to be from one of the core areas, one item from one of the electives and a third to be from either the core or electives. Year 10 students will then present the information to a panel during Term 4.
