James Manager THE SENATE; NOTES with utmost sorrow the crash of a Dana Airline Flight 0992 from Abuja to Lagos on Sunday June 3rd, 2012 at Iju-Ishaga, Agege in Lagos State and a Nigerian registered Cargo aircraft, Allied Air, in Ghana on Saturday June 2nd 2012; FURTHER NOTES with concern that the said crash is coming on the heels of similar crashes involving Bellview Airlines, in 2005, Sosoliso Airlines, also in 2005 and Aviation Development Corporation Airline (ADC) in 2006; WORRIED that the latest Dana Aircraft Crash is even more tragic than the previous ones with a total casualty figure of about 190 people, including 153 Passengers, 6 Crew members and about 37 people on ground; OBSERVES that this latest crash is a clear indication of failure and or negligence of relevant regulatory functions in the aviation industry which if unchecked could lead to more devastating air mishaps in the future; SATISFIED that the peculiar circumstances leading to this crash is a wakeup call for all relevant authorities to rise to the challenge of ensuring that no effort is spared in making the Nations aviation industry conform with International Safety Standards; PRINTED BY NATIONAL ASSEMBLY PRESS, ABUJA 482 Tuesday 5th June, 2012 199 WORRIED that the Dana Air crash might be indicative of a greater rot in the aviation industry which could portend more danger ahead; DETERMINED to see the aforesaid crash as the watershed for a clinical re-examination of our aviation norms and operational procedures with particular reference to regulatory/supervisory functions; CONVINCED also that the air accident is a major National calamity deserving of the sorrowful attention and necessary action of this hallowed Senate; Resolves to: i. OBSERVE a minute silence in honour of those who died in the crash; ii. SEND condolence messages to the families of the bereaved; iii. DIRECT the Committees on aviation of the Senate and the House of Representatives to exhaustively investigate the immediate and remote causes of the crash; and iv. FURTHER DIRECT the Committees on Aviation of the Senate and the House of Representatives, to ascertain the air worthiness of all other operating aircrafts in the Country, and make appropriate recommendations.
