Corresponde a los años 2016 y 2017. Precisamente en este último año, 2017, hemos celebrado el 25 aniversario del Instituto. Aunque el acta fundacional del IBMCP data de 1992 no fue hasta 1994 cuando el Instituto consigue una ubicación física diferenciada y empieza a funcionar como tal. 25 años dan para mucho. No pretendo describir la evolución del Instituto en estos 25 años (se pueden consultar en el libro conmemorativo correspondiente) pero sí resaltar los índices de productividad más significativos. Así, en estos 25 años (en realidad 23) hemos publicado 1.183 artículos SCI de los cuales más del 70% corresponden a artículos del primer cuartil y de manera muy relevante más de la mitad al primer decil (53%). El índice de impacto medio de las publicaciones ha experimentado un crecimiento considerable y se ha situado en torno al 5 en los últimos 10 años. Se han publicado 6 artículos en Nature, 7 en Science, 17 en PNAS y 7 en EMBO además de otros muchos en revistas cercanas a la calidad de éstas. Se han llevado a cabo 223 Tesis Doctorales y los egresados del Master especifico del Instituto han alcanzado la nada despreciable cifra de 189. En el apartado de la divulgación, aspecto al cual se le ha dedicado una especial atención, cabe destacar que nos han visitado 2.268 alumnos de enseñanza secundaria (ES) provenientes de 124 Institutos. Además, 92 Profesores de ES han realizado el curso PLANTeatelo: La Ciencia es divertida con un elevado índice de satisfacción. En este bienio que ahora repasamos seguimos recuperando potencial en RRHH y hemos revertido la tendencia negativa del último decenio. Así, hemos pasado de un total 167 integrantes del IBMCP en 2015 a 179 en 2016 y 205 en 2017, todavía algo lejos de los 240 que llegamos a ser en 2006. Se han incorporado Concha Gomez Mena como Científico Titular y Leandro Peña como Investigador Científico en el CSIC y Regina Niñoles, Eduardo Bueso y Nuria Andrés como Profesores Ayudantes Doctores en la UPV. En la Administración hemos tenido la fortuna de incorporar a Encarnación Aramendia y Rosa Gorriz por parte del CSIC y a Juan Carlos Bello y Jesús Yuste por parte de la UPV. En el apartado de despedidas/jubilaciones han sido varios los miembros del IBMCP que, después de dejar una huella imborrable en el Instituto, han pasado a disfrutar de una merecida jubilación: Mª Angeles Argomaniz, Consuelo Martinez, Teresa Sabater y Juan Carbonell. Por otros motivos Patricia Casas y Pilar Carbonell, después de muchos años apoyando las tareas administrativas han cambiado de destino. A todos ellos les deseamos lo mejor en sus nuevas etapas y les agradecemos su dedicación, a veces de toda una vida, por hacer del IBMCP un mejor Instituto. En el apartado de la divulgación de la ciencia y de formación es de destacar la participación en Expociencia y en el Día Internacional de la Fascinación por las Plantas, iniciativa de EPSO a nivel europeo. Además, se ha contribuido de manera relevante a la celebración del Año Internacional de las Legumbres. Por otra parte, ha sido un honor poder contar con la visita de los premios Nobel Profs Richard J. Roberts y Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, quienes han departido con nosotros sus experiencias y han podido compartir proyectos de futuro entre los jóvenes doctores del IBMCP. 6 Scientific Report 2016-2017 La casualidad ha querido que en este año que hemos celebrado los 25 años del Instituto termine el mandato de esta Dirección. Permitirme solo unas líneas para agradecer al equipo que me ha acompañado durante todos estos años su magnífica labor y encomiable ayuda. A Lynne, su predisposición y apoyo siempre con actitud optimista a los grandes retos del IBMCP (Programa Severo Ochoa, Plan Estratégico, Libro conmemorativo de los 25 años, etc..); a Luis, su gran labor, a veces demasiado poco reconocida, en la divulgación de nuestra ciencia a la sociedad; a Juanra, que nos ha hecho más fáciles el día a día en el IBMCP; a todo el personal de Servicios por su compromiso diario y al personal de Administración con el que ha sido un gusto trabajar estos años. Y a todos vosotros, que habéis hecho posible que el IBMCP sea no solo un lugar de trabajo sino un lugar de convivencia. Durante estos años se han cometido errores, muchos y diversos, pero “Lo peor de un científico no es haber cometido errores, sino tratar de justificarlos” (J.D. Bernal). Ha sido un placer participar en el crecimiento y desarrollo del IBMCP y espero seguir contribuyendo con todos vosotros a su brillante futuro. Vicente Pallas Director 7 Memoria 2016-2017 As indicated, this Activity Report is biannual for the first time. It corresponds to 2016 and 2017. During in this last year, 2017, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Institute. Although the founding of the IBMCP dates back to 1992, it was not until 1994 that the Institute achieved a differentiated physical location and began to function as such. Many things have happened during these 25 years. I do not intend to describe the evolution of the Institute in these 25 years (that can be consulted in the corresponding commemorative book), but I would like to highlight the most significant productivity indexes. Thus, in these 25 years (actually 23), we have published 1,183 SCI articles of which more than 70% correspond to articles in the first quartile and very significantly more than half were published in journal of the top decile (53%). The average impact index of publications has grown considerably and has been around 5 in the last 10 years. Six articles have been published in Nature, 7 in Science, 17 in PNAS and 7 in EMBO, in addition to many others in journals that are close to the quality of these. 223 Doctoral Theses have been carried out and the total number of graduates of the Master Degree offered by the Institute has reached the notable figure of 189. Regarding outreach, an aspect to which special attention has been devoted; it is worth noting that 2.268 high school students from 124 Institutes have visited us. In addition, 92 high school teachers have completed the PLANTeatelo course: Science is fun, with a high satisfaction rate. During these past two years, we continue to recover potential in HR and we have reversed the negative trend of the last decade. Thus, we have gone from a total of 167 members of the IBMCP in 2015 to 179 in 2016 and 205 in 2017, still somewhat far from the 240 members that we registered in 2006. Concha Gomez Mena has joined the CSIC staff as a Tenured Scientist (Científico Titular) and Leandro Peña at the level of Scientific Investigator (Investigador Científico) and Regina Niñoles, Eduardo Bueso and Nuria Andrés have joined the UPV staff as tenure‐track Assistant Professors (Profesor Ayudante Doctor). We have been fortunate to incorporate Encarnación Aramendia and Rosa Gorriz and Juan Carlos Bello and Jesús Yuste to the CSIC and UPV administrative staff, respectively. In addition, several members of the IBMCP, after leaving an indelible mark on the Institute, have gone on to enjoy a well‐deserved retirement: Mª Angeles Argomaniz, Consuelo Martinez, Teresa Sabater and Juan Carbonell. Because of staff mobility policies, Patricia Casas and Pilar Carbonell, after many years of successfully resolving infinite administrative tasks, have changed their destination. We wish them all the best in their new endeavors and we thank them for their dedication, in some cases lifelong, and for making the IBMCP a better Institute. Regarding scientific communication and training, it is worth highlighting the participation in Expociencia and the International Day of Fascination for Plants, an EPSO initiative at European level.
