Using the Reggio-Emilia inspired Numeracy Provocation and Word Problem Task Cards, solve and answer the following math problems. ROLLER COASTER STEM PROJECT Math is all around us! Even wrapped up in twisty, turn-y, upside-down-y ROLLER COASTERS! Tasks to Complete 1. Cut out and sort Stat Cards by tallest to shortest and then by shortest to tallest. Then sort cards fastest to slowest. Last, sort cards longest to shortest ride duration. 2. Bar Graph speeds of top 10 fastest roller coasters in America 3. Compare each coasters speed to determine which is the slowest and which is the fastest. 4. Select your favorite roller coaster to design a model after from the 10 fastest coasters. 5. Build your roller coaster using various household objects. 6. Test and complete trial/error analysis to develop a coaster that meets the following criteria a. Can keep a marble on track from start to finish b. Has the same number of hills and loops as the coaster you selected c. Spans the distance of a minimum 2 feet Task 1: Roller Coaster Stat Card Research Roller Coaster Stat Card Roller Coaster Stat Card Speed Ranking: #10 Fastest Roller Speed Ranking: #9 Fastest Roller Coaster in the USA Coaster in the USA Name: Xcelerator Name: Goliath Park Location: Park Location: Maximum Speed: Maximum Speed: Height: Height: Ride Duration: Ride Duration: Roller Coaster Stat Card Roller Coaster Stat Card Speed Ranking: #8 Fastest Roller Speed Ranking: #7 Fastest Roller Coaster in the USA Coaster in the USA Name: Phantom’s Revenge Name: Titan Park Location: Park Location: Maximum Speed: Maximum Speed: Height: Height: Ride Duration: Ride Duration: Roller Coaster Stat Card Roller Coaster Stat Card Speed Ranking: #6 Fastest Roller Speed Ranking: #5 Fastest Roller Coaster in the USA Coaster in the USA Name: Intimidator 305 Name: Millennium Force Park Location: Park Location: Maximum Speed: Maximum Speed: Height: Height: Ride Duration: Ride Duration: Roller Coaster Stat Card Roller Coaster Stat Card Speed Ranking: #5 Fastest Roller Speed Ranking: #3 Fastest Roller Coaster in the USA Coaster in the USA Name: Fury 325 Name: Superman: Escape from Krypton Park Location: Park Location: Maximum Speed: Maximum Speed: Height: Height: Ride Duration: Ride Duration: Roller Coaster Stat Card Roller Coaster Stat Card Speed Ranking: #2 Fastest Roller Speed Ranking: #1 Fastest Roller Coaster in the USA Coaster in the USA Name: Top Thrill Dragster Name: Kingda Ka Park Location: Park Location: Maximum Speed: Maximum Speed: Height: Height: Ride Duration: Ride Duration: Task 2: Mapping 1.
