The issue aimed to inspire readers, especially during the start of a new semester. “I think having a theme around strength and overcoming obstacles was really empowering,” said Kayla Mendes, the president of UDress Magazine. “Having the spirit of strength, especially with everything going on in the world right now, it was something that we really wanted to come through.” The theme shined during the event with urban city décor, filled with geometric pieces and a subtle skyline featured in the front of the room. The night’s celebration also included DJ Dee Square, as well as performances by Delaware Dance Fever, the acapella group Vocal Point, and soloists Jennifer Fritz and Mariano DiGabriele. The highlight of the night was the fashion show that followed the performances. Models strutted in clothing from South Moon Under, Burlington, Ski Bum, Viva Love Boutique, Plato’s Closet, Nicole J, Bloom Planners and Macy’s. “All of the models were so diverse and unique,” said executive editor, Haley Reid. “I felt like this really represented so many people on UD’s campus.” Editor-in- chief, Meghan Scarry, would most likely agree with that statement, as the runway show is always her favorite part of UDress launches. “The stylists and hair/makeup team do an amazing job working with the models,” she said. Guests enjoyed the runway show while munching on local cuisines including UD Catering, Bings Bakery, Insomnia Cookies, Jimmy John’s, Klondike Kate’s, Good Uncle and Baked WC. Meghan Director, Toni Marotti - Fashion Event Director, Lindsay Carroll - Art Director Scarry added, “As long as one reader felt a little more inspired after reading the Rise issue that would be my favorite part of the magazine.” Morgan Laffey, the publisher ofUDress , loved how the theme brought the UD community together. “I loved FRONT ROW PICTURED LEFT TO RIGHT: hearing the various conversations and comments that broke out surrounding the theme.
