Title: Working Draft of Tables & Character Names for Proposed Amendment 1 to 10646-1:2000 Source: USA Status: Working document Action: For the consideration of WG2 References: WG2 N2228, WG2 N2191R, WG2 N2195, WG2 N2197 Distribution: ISO/IEC JTC1/SC2/WG2 members

Summary The attached tables comprise the results of the action item of the U.S. committee to draft tables and character names for a proposed amendment to 10646-1:2000. The thrust of that action item was to start with the approved list of mathematical symbols in WG2 N2191R, take feedback from interested parties, and to incorporate all other characters approved and in the WG2 bucket for future encoding. In addition, a small number of additional characters related to the math symbol set, mostly constituting compatibility characters for terminal graphics, are also included in these tables, for convenience of discussion. Separate summary proposal forms have been submitted for all characters listed in these tables that are not yet officially in the approved bucket of WG2.

Table Format For ease of reference against the existing charts and tables of 10646-1:2000, the characters included in this document are shown in chart format, with surrounding positions (whether assigned or reserved) hatched out, so that the proposed additions stand out clearly. This is not necessarily intended as the format that any ballotted document for a PDAM text would take; presumably the exact way the characters would be represented for ballotting is a decision to be taken by the editor.

Character Names List The character names are available in two alternative formats. One format is exactly the same as that used in printing the standard (10646-1:2000) itself. The other format is the same as that used in printing the Unicode book. The latter format includes additional helpful information regarding the identity of various characters or sets of characters, cross-references to similar characters, and so on. But that information is provided for committee advisement only. It is not intended that any of that additional information would be formally included with the draft text for Amendment 1. Based on feedback from interested experts, a few character names originating from WG2 N2191R or other bucket-related sources, such as WG2 N2195, have been modified slightly from their earlier forms. These changes were made to promote consistency in naming, to follow prior practice of 10646 character names and guidelines wherever possible, and to minimize the potential number of ballot comments regarding character name changes that national bodies would have to make on any eventual ballotted list of character names.
