Life in the earliest civilizations included festivals involving sports contests. Following the death of Alexander the Great, sports became a professional entertainment for Greek spectators who would pay entrance fees to watch the contests.2 Undoubtedly, the spectators who filled the tiered stadia suffered injuries.
