FOCUS ON OUR BREEDERS:

Tailwind Farm, located in south Langley, British Columbia, Canada and is owned and operated by Kim and Paul McDougall. Tailwind is a small family farm specializing in quality sport . Their breeding program is designed to produce ponies with excellent movement, ability and of course wonderful temperaments. Riverdance (pictured at left) is a First Premium ASPR . He passes on his movement, athletic ability and his markings to his foals. He stands 12:2 HH and is proving himself with crosses on mares of all sizes and breeds. He was imported from the U.S as a two year old stallion prospect. Riverdance is a grandson of the famous Connemara stallion Custusha’s Cashel Rock who was later to become a Breyer model, Rocky, Champion Connemara stallion. At the 2003 ASPR inspection in Langley B.C, Riviera (pictured on the right with the McDougall’s niece Jessica) a half filly by Riverdance was awarded site champion. One of his first foals, Riviera is now two years old and won both her in classes at the July 2005 BCWPC annual show. She has been retained by Tailwind Farm

Tailwind also had two other home bred ponies at the recent BCWPCS show. Tailwind’s Touch Of Sterling (pictured on the left) owned by Carmen Stacey, and ASPR stallion Tailwind’s Coeur D’Avion (pictured on the right) of Welsh/Holstein descent owned by Kelly Allen. Coeur D’Avionis the sire of the 2004 ASPR Western and National Canadian Champion foal futurity winner, Coeur D’Esprit. Many Riverdance foals have now been inspected by American Sport Registry. Several have been retained by their new owners as future sport pony sires and the McDougall’s are happy to see the Riverdance bloodlines carried on. “We were very happy to see American Sport Pony come north of the border to inspect and register our ponies. There is huge interest and involvement in western Canada with large numbers of ponies at the inspections.” Kim McDougall has been involved in and ponies for over thirty five years. Although she has tried and enjoyed many different disciplines, hunters are her biggest interest. Kim previously showed in the amateur owner hunter and jumper divisions but now concentrates solely on ponies. She says “It’s the most fun I have ever had and very addictive!” Kim and Paul both fly for Air Canada and from that came the “Tailwind” name. Kim explains “A tailwind pushes the airplane along faster so it reaches it’s destination in a shorter time. I am always happy to get home from work early so I can get back to the farm!” . Along with their daughter Madison and their niece Jessica, the McDougall’s are committed to keep on producing quality sport ponies. You can see more of their ponies and their stallion Riverdance at www.tailwindfarm.ca .

Warmblood News 3 Show Results: Elly Schobel writes: Her 'Little One' Raison de Joie trounced the competition at at Lexington, VA. He won the 3 year old Colt and Gelding class with a score of 82.9. In doing so he also picked up the Colt Championship, was Reserve Young Horse, and last but not least got a 77% in the Materiale classes where he was the only 3 year old, all others were 4 and 5. In this group he was Second. So now the older 'dudes' will know what awaits them in a couple of years in the show ring from this young American Warmblood Whipper Snapper. As of August 12 Raison de Joie is second in the US for 3 year old in hand Horse of the Year and may have a shot at winning if his scores are good enough at Devon !

4 yr. old ASPR approved stallion Primetime Calypso (pictured at left) (Peaz Bangupbaby/Nocturn's Holiday Sensation) was reserve champion of the half Welsh division, english pleasure, at the July Red River show. Calypso was ridden by Caitlin Sewell and is owned by Jennifer Weems and Hot Pony Products of Aubrey, Tx.

Ironman offspring once again had a great outing at the July II Showplace productions Hunter Jumper show, Infinity owned by Sheila Stone won the two year old class, and was Best Young Horse, sister Invincible won her three year old class and was Reserve Champion Best Young Horse.

Great News from Isauro Flores of Olympic : I took Cotopaxi, For Paragon and Raffaello to the Pacific Regional and British Columbia dressage championships. On the first day Cotopaxi was 2nd (75.88%), For Paragon 5th (74%) and Raffaello 6th (73%) On the second day Cotopaxi was 2nd, For Paragon 5th and Raffaello 7th. Cotopaxi was the Champion of the Training Level division. Imagine my surprise when my Holsteiner jumper stallion was champion against the best dressage riders in BC riding their recent DRESSAGE imports in the Training Level division. Tons of fun. An athlete is an athlete and I am fortunate to have such wonderful horses.

ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE AWR. Submitted by Nancy Maloney

American Warmblood Registry (AWR) sponsored the Hunter Breeding Division held at Equifest 1, a major Midwest Hunter- Jumper show held at the gorgeous Lamplight facility in Wayne Illinois. To my knowledge, this is the first time a Warmblood registry has sponsored Hunter Breeding. This was very forward thinking on the part of the AWR as according to the USEF, Hunter/ Jumpers comprise 54% of the U.S. market compared with 15% for Dressage, yet the emphasis with a majority of registries has remained on Dressage. We need to focus on the U.S. market and take note of what it is comprised of. We are breeding for our market and although AWR breeders have sold 20 horses to Europe we need to be aware and recognize that the largest segment of the U.S. market is a discipline not even held in Europe. That is why the European derived registries ignore our hunters. Every aspect of our market needs to be addressed, and it is only good business for the AWR to reach out to and raise awareness to those in the Hunter industry. The Hunter Breeding classes were held Sunday morning, the prior week had been extremely hot, often mid 90s which hurt show attendance, this show usually pulls 1,200 horses or more, due to the weather this year attendance was under a 1,000. The breeding classes were well attended but not as huge as they usually are. The AWR was represented by four horses, a yearling, Imagination by Ironman, who won the yearling class and was Best Young Horse two, two year olds, Ironstar by Ironman who won the two year old class and Infinity who was fourth , and a three year old, Invincible who was second. Just hearing AWR over the loud speaker and seeing my AWR shirt made lots of people curious as to what we are and I spent much time talking to numerous people, explaining about our registry, encouraging them to attend inspections and visit our web site. I even managed to round up a pony breeder to become a member and attend our inspection with one of her pony stallions. The cost of the sponsorship was well worth the attention drawn to AWR, the education of quite a few hunter people, and a new recruit! And as I said earlier---another first for the AWR.
