MAN integrates Allison transmission into TGM and TGS range, volunteer fire department in region takes delivery of premiere vehicle at Interschutz 2015

Volunteer fire department Zell am of , , orders first Euro 5 MAN vehicle equipped in line production with an Allison 4000 Series™ fully automatic transmission. Symbolic vehicle handover takes place at Interschutz 2015 on the Allison stand.

Hannover, Germany – Exceptional requirements demand exceptional performance – that’s the view of the fire brigade.

The volunteer fire department was very specific when it came to selecting their latest vehicle. They wanted a MAN TGS 18.400 4x4 Euro 5 truck, equipped with an Allison fully automatic transmission – now officially available from MAN Truck & Bus AG. On June 9, Siegfried Geisler, commander of the Zell am Ziller fire brigade, symbolically takes delivery at Interschutz in Hannover of the Allison equipped MAN-TGS chassis, which will be fitted with a TLF-A 3000/200 body.

Located about 40 kilometers east of Innsbruck, the Zillertal region is famous for its beautiful mountains and parks. It stretches from to , and then divides into the Tux Valley and Zemmgrund, Stillupgrund and Zillergrund areas. The Zell am Ziller volunteer fire department needed a vehicle that would deliver exceptional performance, even on the steep grades and difficult terrain of the Austrian Alps.

“Dynamic uphill rescue operations are very common in our region – starting and stopping on steep grades, and driving on narrow roads and over difficult terrain in emergency situations require our operators’ full concentration,” said Commander Geisler.

Moving an 18-ton vehicle uphill quickly during emergency operation requires transferring full engine power and torque to the wheels. The Allison 4000 Series fully automatic transmission, featuring a patented torque converter and uninterrupted power shifts, ensures superior acceleration and continuous traction. Superior performance and precise manoeuvrability, even at very low vehicle speeds, make Allison Automatics the preferred transmission technology in emergency situations.

“Being able to count on uncompromising performance is critical,” said Geisler. “Drivers need to be able to trust their vehicles and always be in control. We wanted an Allison automatic, as it is the transmission technology we can trust to get us to an emergency site faster, even under these harsh operating conditions.”

According to Harald Rosenauer, Western and Central European area manager for Allison Transmission, the Allison-equipped MAN TGS 4x4 offers the Zell am Ziller fire brigade unrivalled reliability and performance. “With its 400 horsepower engine and the Allison 4000 Series transmission, this vehicle has superior acceleration performance, that has no equal,” he said.
