Within the past 14 FIRST LEGO League seasons in Turkey about 18.000 students from 68 cities participated, . Turkish teams won 29 international awards including the Open European Championship and the Canadian International Championship. Every year, there are patent applications. Some of our participants attend some of the best universities in the World with scholarship. BKD helps find financing for public school teams. 2017 - 2018 Season Donors 2018-2019 season - INTO ORBIT 554 teams 5.500 participants GOALS 16 regionals + 1 national event FIRST® LEGO® League Open International Turkey 2019 BKD will be hosting “FIRST® LEGO® League Open International” an international tournament between May 22nd and 25th, 2019 (in Izmir) with teams expected from 90 countries. World Robot Olympiad - Turkey Designed by the World Robot Olympiad Association (Singapore, 2004) World Robot Olympiad’s purpose is to interest the students in robotics, in coding, and in STEM subjects. Participation is for students from primary school to university level. Currently, WRO is being organized in 65 countries with about 60.000 participants yearly. The program is being organized in Turkey by BKD since 2014. It’s a STEM Project aiming to increase the attention of children for science and engineering by developing their problem solving skills and enhancing their creativity. The children use simple recyclable materials and design several engineering designs on aviation and space. The project is carried out actively in İzmir, Eskişehir, Ankara, as well as in İstanbul, in the 2018-2019 academic year. Each year 3 university presidents assist in co-hosting this event. Within the past 6 seasons, 17 university presidents participated and 39 young scientists/engineers received awards. So that BKD’s activities are spread throughout Turkey. So that children show strong intrinsic interest in STEAM topics. Smart Factory - Hugo Boss • A 5 days science camp for the children of Hugo Boss employees that promotes interest in coding and technology • Improving: coding, project development, and presentation skills using LEGO robotics with the Smart Factory theme. • 200 students participated in 3 seasons. Empower & Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation • The participation of all-girls teams to FIRST LEGO League from Aksaray, Tokat, Samsun, Giresun, Muş, Yozgat, Ankara, Muş, Artvin & Diyarbakır (99 girls partcipated over 4 years) • A workshop on «Girls’ participation in STEM acitivities» financed by Empower. Allianz in Soma • 150 children - directly or indirectly affected by the Soma mining accident - participated in FIRST LEGO League. The process helped them build capacity to deal with the trauma. BKD in Gemlik • Borusan financed 10 public school teams from Gemlik to participate in FIRST LEGO League FIRST LEGO League • HSBC has been supporting FIRST LEGO League in Turkey (3 years in a row) under the Youth Opportunities Grant Program • Main Donor for Local and National Tournaments • HSBC also funds 8 public school teams from Izmir and Istanbul We run for FIRST LEGO League Jr. public school teams For the past 3 years, our volunteers have been running in the Istanbul Marathon and fundraising for the disadvantaged FIRST LEGO League Jr. teams.
