5 MEET THE NEW VESTRY NOMINEES FOR 2016 Jean Davis It was the “open doors” that first drew me to Trinity in 2002. The drumbeat for war was beginning; I needed to be in sacred space. And then it was the “open minds”, as I began to attend book studies and discussion groups where we shared faith and questions and doubts. But ultimately it was the “open hearts” of the parishioners which drew me in. I have been involved mainly with justice issues: JOC chair, JOC Steering Committee, HAWC co-chair, Sustainable Trinity co-chair. I bring to the vestry commitment and my management experience in administration, budgeting and personnel.

Michael Dean We began attending Trinity in 1987 when we “met church again for the first time”. We stayed because Trinity has supported our spiritual growth with its inclusive atmosphere, commitment to progressive theology and the spiritually inspiring people we have encountered here. I have ushered from the beginning and served on various committees including Justice and Outreach, HAWC and, most recently, the Portfolio Committee. I had a long career with the County Department of Social Services and believe I can bring to the Vestry my commitment to social justice as well as my management skills in fiscal and personnel matters.

Claude Garciacelay I began attending Trinity in 1997 and was initially drawn by the friendly, welcoming and inclusive community that welcomed me. Over the years this community has fed my spiritual journey, supported me in times of joy and sadness and has become a second home. It is my great pleasure and joy to give back to this community by serving on the Vestry with my skills as a planner, organizer and my holistic perspective. Over the years I have served Trinity in various ministries, while also serving as Senior Warden, Worship Council Chair and most recently on the Portfolio Committee.

Patsy Price When I began attending Trinity 14 years ago, I quickly came to realize what a special place Trinity is and was drawn to become more involved. Since then, I’ve been a youth mentor, a member of the CYC, Building Committee, and Construction Oversight Committee. I served on the vestry from 2009-2012, including two years as senior warden, and from mid-2014-present to fill the remainder of a vacated term. I am wife to Robert and mother to Ian and Nicholas and work as a land use planner. I’m honored to continue to serve on the vestry during this time of transition.

MEET THE SEARCH COMMITTEE Mark Benson Trinity was just getting acquainted with its new interim rector, Mark Asman, when I started attending the 8 a.m. service, in January, 1994, just after moving to Santa Barbara from Los Angeles. For several years, my participation was limited to Sunday church and the Thursday evening Base Community. Slowly, I got more involved. Over the years, this has meant several things, including helping with stewardship, and becoming an usher and lector/intercessor. From about 2004 to 2007 I was on the vestry where I served as Senior Warden during my last year. Since then, I have been on the Adult Formation Committee and was its chair from 2010 through 2014, helping plan the first couple of men’s retreats. Along with several others here, I have helped organize and host group centering prayer opportunities, and am on the School of the Heart leadership team. For me, the Search Committee is a great way to spend time with some Trinity friends as we move through this challenging transition together, and I am grateful for this opportunity. David Gartrell Along with my wife Susan, I have been at Trinity since 2001, our son William joining us three years later. I love the balance of tradition and progressive values, and the inclusive community of wonderful individuals who come together to do amazing things. I am currently head usher at the ten o’clock service, and a member of the liturgy committee and Sustainable Trinity. In the past I have served on the vestry and the parish council. In my professional life I have served on many search committees at UCSB, and look forward to the unique aspects of discernment that will no doubt distinguish this search from those of an academic nature.

6 MEET THE SEARCH COMMITTEE Dane Goodman I began coming to Trinity 20 years ago, on Christmas Eve 1995. That night I now see as a gift that keeps unfolding. What holds me here are the remarkable people, the inclusiveness and compassion, and the progressive leadership of both clergy and lay people. Some of my involvement at Trinity includes: Vestry member, Lay Eucharist Minister; Prayer Minister; member of two priesthood discernment committees; and member of the Living Wage committee. I bring to the Search Committee some managerial/hiring experience, curiosity, and passion to assist in finding the best candidates for the new rector position.

Susan Krutzsch I started attending Trinity in 2006 with my husband Jeff. The sermon that day was a revelation for me and I knew that, after attending numerous Episcopal churches, I had found my spiritual home. I respect Trinity’s open-mindedness, emphasis on justice and outreach and acceptance of all. My key areas of responsibility have included Co-chair of the Hospitality Council, Stewardship Committee member, Level I Catechist, volunteer at Harding School, Faulding Hotel Ministry and current Co-chair of the Children and Youth Council. I believe I bring a strong understanding of, and appreciation for, Shared Ministry at Trinity. I am passionate about the needs of children and youth at Trinity and beyond. I also care deeply about radical hospitality. Mandy Phillips I started attending Trinity the summer of 1994 when Mark was an interim priest. My husband and I moved away for a few years and one of the main things I missed most about Santa Barbara was Trinity. There are so many things that have kept me and brought me back to Trinity over the years but initially it was the progressive theology, so healing after growing up in a conservative church environment. Currently I’m especially thankful for the children’s program for my six year old son. Over the years I have been involved in several ministries at Trinity. I was involved with the start of the Justice and Outreach fund, served on the Vestry, Altar Guild, have consistently been an LEM and more recently, with the Stewardship Committee and Children’s program. I am honored to serve on the search committee, I pray my history with and dedication to Trinity will enable me to serve our community well in such an important task. I am honored to be on the Search Committee. Jamie Sprague I first attended Trinity in early 2010, after learning about the community through my undergraduate internship at Pacific Pride Foundation. What drew me to Trinity then is what continues to draw me today – who we are isn’t left at the front door, we are taught and challenged and encouraged to question, and we are supported through all. I have had the privilege of supporting Trinity as a youth mentor, acting Youth Ministries Coordinator, and occasional atrium volunteer and choir member. I look forward to serving our community in our search with my analytical mind and compassionate heart. I am honored to be on the Search Committee.

Norma Stuck I have been an active member of Trinity since 2000 participating in the following church areas: vestry, choir, altar guild, welcome team, Hands and Heart ministry, prayer shawl ministry, Base Community, HAWC, Wisdom group, monthly meditations and office volunteer. My husband, Glenn, and I spent twenty years in Church of the Epiphany in Oak Park as founding members working in all aspects of the church life as leaders and Lay Readers. This mission work exposed us to a variety of priests. My professional experience includes teaching, bookkeeping and office Administrator in both commercial and church spheres. For eight years I supported two priests at St. Michael’s UCSB Campus Ministry.

Don Zimmerman My wife Siu and I discovered Trinity in 1998. We felt that we had come home. It is a welcoming, joyful place, a sacred space. The many reasons for this are found in the Portfolio Committee report. At Trinity, I have served on the Justice Committee, two discernment committees, and on the Vestry, becoming Senior Warden. I was a member of the search committee for the Associate Rector. Formerly a Department Chair and Divisional Dean at UCSB, I am very familiar with searches. I look forward to working with the members of the Search Committee and, with the help of the Holy Spirit, bringing my prior experience to bear on our search for a new Rector. Georgia Noble - Vestry Liaison to the Committee I have been a parishioner at Trinity for 17 years and served in several areas, primarily, Hospitality, Adult Formation, and Worship and for ten years I was the Coordinator of Shared Ministry. I have given a great deal to Trinity and what I have received in return is priceless. In this time of change and transition, whatever time talent and treasure I have to give to that cause, I give gladly.
