Josef Korenar made 37 saves and Jonny Brodzinski 11/22 COL 1-4 L extended his point streak to six games as he collected a goal and a pair of assists. Joachim Blichfeld also 11/23 COL 6-2 W 11/27 @SD 3-2 OTW recorded his third-straight multi-point effort. 11/29 BAK 3-4 L 12/6 @ONT 9-2 W Sommer Time: After 22 seasons in the AHL, Roy Sommer earned a promotion to the Sharks on Wednesday, 12/7 @ONT 4-5 SOL 12/11 BAK 6-2 W being named the team’s associate coach, after Pete DeBoer and a majority of his staff were relieved of their 12/14 STK duties. Sommer, 62, is the AHL’s all-time leader in wins (773), games coached (1,570), and seasons coached 12/15 @STK (22). Assistant coaches Michael Chiasson and Jimmy Bonneau were appointed co-coaches of the Barracuda 12/18 ONT on Friday. In addition, Mike Ricci and Evgeni Nabokov were also promoted to the Sharks. 12/20 @SD 12/27 STK 12/29 BAK Heating Up: The Stockton Heat enter Saturday as the AHL’s best road team (10-2-0-1 = .808%) and the most 12/31 @STK potent offense, averaging 4.04 goals-per-game. In addition, the Flames affiliate boasts the best power-play 1/3 @TUC in the league (25/92 = 27.2%), third-best penalty kill (91/105 = 86.7%) and the Heat’s .909 (9-0-0-2) winning 1/4 @TUC 1/8 ONT percentage when scoring first is the best in the league. 1/11 STK 1/12 STK Blichfeld Beasting: Joachim Blichfeld made his NHL debut on Thursday for the Sharks after earning his first 1/15 COL 1/17 @IA NHL call up earlier in the day. On Wednesday, with the Barracuda, the 21-year-old recorded his third- 1/18 @IA straight multi-point effort and now leads the team in goals (9), points (19) and power-play goals (3). Among 1/22 @BAK AHL rookies, Blichfeld is second in points-per-game (.95), among skaters who have appeared in seven or 1/25 ONT more games, seventh in scoring, seventh in goals and T-fourth in power-play goals. Last year, Blichfeld led 1/31 @SD 2/5 SD the WHL in scoring (53 goals, 61 assists) and was named the WHL Player of the Year (Four Broncos Trophy) 2/7 @COL as a member of the Portland Winterhawks.
