LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Robert S. Woods upon the occasion of his designation by HeartShare Human Services of as the recipient of its 2011 Heart Award

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors, and community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues, friends, and family; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in accord with its long-stand- ing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Robert S. Woods upon the occasion of his designation by HeartShare Human Services of New York as the recipient of its 2011 Linda Dano Heart Award; and WHEREAS, Emmy Award winning actor Robert S. Woods will be honored at the organization's Spring Gala and Auction, to be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the New York Marriott Marquis; and WHEREAS, HeartShare Human Services of New York is a nonprofit human services agency dedicated to improving the lives of people in need of special services and support, and to helping individuals develop to their fullest potential and lead meaningful and enriched lives; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1914, HeartShare Human Services of New York promotes self-sufficiency and responsibility through its programs and services to more than 25,000 children, adults, families, and the devel- opmentally disabled throughout annually; each year, at its Spring Gala and Auction, it proudly recognizes the achievements of those who exemplify its ideals and help to further its mission; and WHEREAS, Best known for his Emmy Award winning role as Police Commis- sioner, , on "," Robert S. Woods has been an icon of ABC Daytime for the past 32 years; and WHEREAS, In 1969, he served with the 5th Special Forces Group of the United States Army, completing a tour of 15 months in Vietnam; upon his return, he joined the 12th Special Forces Reserve Group in his native Long Beach, California while he completed his degree in Radio & Tele- vision Production at California State University, Long Beach; and WHEREAS, Robert S. Woods' sights, set on becoming a news broadcaster or television director, were cut short when he won the role of Evil Eye Fleagle in the Disneyland Drama Workshop Production of "Li'l Abner"; and WHEREAS, While performing that role, he worked part-time at Disneyland on the famous Jungle Cruise attraction, encouraging his acting talents; he applied to the Film Actor's Workshop, an accredited school located on the old Warner Brothers lot in Burbank which honored the GI Bill; he was readily accepted and soon became one of its star students; and WHEREAS, Two army training films and a summer season tour of "Barefoot in the Park" as the handsome, ambitious Paul Bratter with star Dorothy Lamour as his mother-in-law followed; after which he began accumulating television credits including "The Waltons" as young Dr. David Spencer, and as Lt. Bob King in "Project UFO," "City of Angels," "Police Story" and many others; and WHEREAS, Robert S. Woods then won the Drama Critics Award for Best Actor in the original play "Stitch & Yubie," presented in a theatre which had just 25 seats; and WHEREAS, In 1979 Robert S. Woods landed his most notable role playing Bo Buchanan on "One Life To Live" for ABC; in 1983 he won the presti- gious Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor, with subsequent nominations following in 1986, 1993, 1994, 1999 and 2000; and WHEREAS, He was actively involved with the New York City Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission, serving on its council for the Commemora- tive Wall in Lower and speaking at its dedication in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Robert S. Woods has lent his name to The Leukemia Society- Jane Elissa Foundation on numerous occasions and became the spokesperson for the Fisher Foundation for Alzheimer Research in New York City, a disease from which both his mother and his father-in-law had suffered; and WHEREAS, He and his wife Loyita were introduced to HeartShare through their dear friend, Linda Dano and look forward to continuing their support for the magnificent and successful efforts HeartShare makes in the care and education of children, young adults and adults who are challenged by autism, developmental disabilities and mental retardation, and he is pleased to receive the HeartShare award named on her honor; and WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi- ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Robert S. Woods has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, family and friends; and WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ- ual for the benefit of others which Robert S. Woods has displayed throughout his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Robert S. Woods upon the occasion of his designation by HeartShare Human Services of New York as the recipient of its 2011 Linda Dano Heart Award on March 24, 2011; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran- smitted to Robert S. Woods.
