Beaver Notes for Yellow Peril. July 2021

Nine leaders attended the District Meeting representing 6 Colonies with 4 apologies. The following points were covered:

Beaver Birthday Badge and County Challenge. All the badges ordered should have been received by the time this report goes out. Any new Beavers who wish to do the challenge may do so until Christmas and it may be possible to get more badges. Contact Olly or Rachel if you would like some. If young people have moved on to Cubs and have not had the chance to wear the badge on their uniform, then they may wear it on their Cub jumper util the end of the year. The winner of the badge design competition, Harry from Bourne Valley will receive a framed badge. Grow your Group This last session run by the Regional Team for the District was really worthwhile but sadly not well attended. Olly joined the workshop and took notes so if anyone missed the session and would like a copy, she is happy to share them. Topics covered were Risk Assessment, Programme and Recruiting Adults. Tracey Thurgood, BSL Boscombe Down attended and will hopefully share a good programme idea with us at our September Meeting. July 4th was National “Thank You’ day. We would like to say ‘thank you’ to all our Beaver Leaders, Assistants, Section Assistants and helpers by holding a get-together/social on Monday, August 16th 7-8.30pm. Please note the date. Further details will follow soon. Expressions of Interest. There seems to be a real flurry of Parents wanting their young people to join Beaver Scouts and for some colonies this is putting a strain on numbers creating waiting lists where the chance of those young people getting into the colony is unlikely. We had a discussion at the meeting on ways we could ease the challenge and it was noted that if the Cub Pack had room a young person could join at 7 ½ years, provided that the young person could cope. OSM One leader queried how to save Risk Assessments on OSM and another leader was able to guide them through the process. A brief discussion followed on the benefits of OSM and how many colonies used it.

The meeting ended with a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the Leaders for their hard work and enthusiasm making Beaver interesting and fun throughout this last difficult year, for helping their Beavers to achieve Bronze Awards and also for joining the meetings and supporting each other. We wish everyone the opportunity for a rest and hope that you are able to enjoy the holiday period. We look forward to seeing as many adults in thee Beaver Scout Section as possible on August 16th.

Olly and Rachel. Still looking after the Beaver Scout Section!
