Form guide • Club Brugge have lost their last five games against Italian opponents in UEFA club competition since a 1-0 UEFA Champions League triumph at AC Milan in the 2003/04 group stage. All of those defeats were by one-goal margins, and they have also lost by the odd goal in their last four home fixtures against Serie A outfits. • Club Brugge won all four of their games in UEFA Europa League qualifying this season, and are unbeaten in three continental home fixtures (W2 D1); Torino also came through qualifying unbeaten (W3 D1) and have yet to concede in Europe this season. • Torino have not lost in four encounters with Belgian sides (W3 D1), and won both of their previous games in Belgium by one-goal margins. Trivia and links • Losing UEFA Cup finalists in 1992, Torino are playing in Europe for the first time since the 2002 UEFA Intertoto Cup. • Torino boast Belgian talent in the form of goalkeeper Jean-François Gillet (capped nine times), who has played in Italy since leaving his boyhood club R. Standard de Liège in 1999. Their on-loan Morocco midfielder Omar El Kaddouri was also born in Belgium, starting his career as a trainee at RSC Anderlecht. • Club Brugge's Brazilian midfielder Fernando played in Italy with AC Siena and Calcio Catania between 2003 and 2005. The coaches • Giampiero Ventura led Torino back to Serie A after taking charge in 2011, and is now enjoying – at the age of 66 – his first season in Europe. Previously a player at UC Sampdoria, he once led US Lecce from Serie C to Serie A, and also oversaw promotion to the top tier with Cagliari Calcio, as well as winning a club record 50 Serie A points with AS Bari in 2009/10. • A goalkeeper for R. Standard de Liège, KV Mechelen, SL Benfica and Belgium, for whom he won 58 caps, Michel Preud'homme has been in charge at Club Brugge since September 2013. As a coach, he has won league titles in Belgium (Standard, 2007/08) and Saudi Arabia (Al-Shabab FC, 2011/12) in addition to the Belgian Cup (KAA Gent, 2009/10) and the Dutch Cup (FC Twente, 2010/11). • Preud'homme came up against Torino's neighbours Juventus as a Standard player; his side drew 1-1 at home and lost 2-0 away in the 1982/83 European Champion Clubs' Cup. 4 Club Brugge KV - Torino FC Thursday 18 September 2014 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Jan Breydelstadion, Bruges Team facts Club Brugge KV Formed: 1891 Nickname: Blauw-Zwart (Blue and Black) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Champion Clubs' Cup: (1978) • UEFA Cup: (1976) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 13 (2005) Belgian Cup: 10 (2007) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: third qualifying round 2012/13: group stage (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2011/12: round of 32 2010/11: group stage 2009/10: round of 32 2008/09: group stage 2007/08: first round 2006/07: group stage 2005/06: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League group stage) 2004/05: group stage (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 8-0: Club Brugge v Floriana FC 19/09/73, European Champion Clubs' Cup first round first leg • Biggest away win 1-6: ÍA Akranes v Club Brugge 23/08/01, UEFA Cup qualifying round second leg 0-5: Újpesti TE v Club Brugge 15/09/98, UEFA Cup first round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 1-4: Club Brugge v FC Shakhtar Donetsk 17/09/09, UEFA Europa League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 6-1: AS Monaco FC v Club Brugge 09/11/88, European Champion Clubs' Cup second round second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 7-1: Club Brugge v Olympiakos Nicosia FC 27/09/01, first round second leg • Biggest away win 1-6: ÍA Akranes v Club Brugge (see above) 0-5: Újpesti TE v Club Brugge (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 1-4: Club Brugge v FC Shakhtar Donetsk (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 4-0: FC Girondins de Bordeaux v Club Brugge 20/09/12, group stage Torino FC Formed: 1906 Nickname: Il Toro (The Bull) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) 5 Club Brugge KV - Torino FC Thursday 18 September 2014 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Jan Breydelstadion, Bruges • UEFA Cup: (1992) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 7 (1976) Italian Cup: 5 (1993) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2007/08: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2006/07: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2005/06: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2004/05: did not take part in UEFA club competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 6-1: Torino v KR Reykjavík 02/10/91, UEFA Cup first round second leg 5-0: Torino v FC Haka 06/12/64, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round second leg • Biggest away win 0-4: FC Nantes v Torino 17/09/86, UEFA Cup first round first leg • Heaviest home defeat* 2-3: Torino v SC Bastia 07/12/77, UEFA Cup third round second leg 1-2 on four occasions, most recently v Lillestrøm SK 29/09/93, UEFA Cup first round second leg 0-1: Torino v ŠK Slovan Bratislava 19/02/69, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final first leg • Heaviest away defeat 4-0: UD Las Palmas v Torino 27/09/72, UEFA Cup first round second leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 6-1: Torino v KR Reykjavík (see above) • Biggest away win 0-4: FC Nantes v Torino (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 2-3: Torino v SC Bastia (see above) 1-2 twice, most recently v FC Dinamo Moskva 22/10/92, second round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 4-0: UD Las Palmas v Torino (see above) *Torino also lost 2-0 to TSV 1860 München in a 1964/65 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-final replay staged in Zurich, in which they were the nominal home team 6 Club Brugge KV - Torino FC Thursday 18 September 2014 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Jan Breydelstadion, Bruges Squad list Club Brugge KV Current season All-time QUAL UEL League UEL UEFA No.
