  • Buffalo Sabres Digital Press
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips February 18, 2020 Sabres suspend Zach Bogosian for failing to report to minors By John Wawrow Associated Press February 17, 2020 BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Sabres suspended defenseman Zach Bogosian on Monday for failing to report to the minors. The team announced the suspension two days after the 12-year NHL veteran cleared waivers and was assigned to Buffalo’s American Hockey League affiliate in Rochester, New York. The Sabres declined further comment. In a text to The Associated Press, Bogosian’s agent, Darren Ferris, wrote: “We are aware of the notice of suspension and will not be providing a comment at this time.” Bogosian’s options are limited, and he now risks losing out on what’s left of the $6 million he is owed in the final year of his contract. The developments come a little over a week before the NHL’s trade deadline on Feb. 24, and some three months after Bogosian requested to be traded. The chances of the Sabres finding a trade partner were already slim in part because of the value of his contract. Another issue is Bogosian’s lack of playing time. He missed the first 22 games of the season while recovering from his second hip operation in three years. He was a healthy scratch in seven of Buffalo’s eight games before being placed on waivers. Bogosian has a goal and four assists in 19 games this season, and 53 goals and 141 assists in 636 career games. He was acquired by Buffalo in February 2015 in a multiplayer trade with the Winnipeg Jets.

  • 1977-1978 Cincinnati Stingers
1977-1978 Coach: Jacques Demers CINCINNATI Record: 35-42-3, 73 points STINGERS Finish: 7th, League Playoffs: Did Not Qualify The Stingers’ third season was lost within the first month: a 1-8-0 start put the team too far back to overcome, although a strong second half gave the Stingers 35 wins, but no playoff appearance. There were high hopes, after the Stingers were able to gut the core of their rivals Indianapolis by signing coach Jacques Demers, goaltender Michel Dion and defenseman Pat Stapleton. However, the new “Cincinnapolis Ringers” never formed a cohesive unit, and numerous trades and minor-league call-ups did not help to maintain a sense of consistency. Individually, many players turned in fine seasons: Center Robbie Ftorek scored 59 goals and 109 points. Rick Dudley scored 30 goals and collected 156 penalty minutes, while Jamie Hislop, Peter Marsh and Richie Leduc all scored at least 20 goals. Pat Stapleton was the best of the blueliners, a +6 and often the point-man on the attack. Ron Plumb had a solid year, partly reduced by injuries. Michel Dion led the league with 4 shutouts, with a young Mike Liut backing him, but ultimately, the Stingers gave up too many goals (332) and were forced to watch the 1978 playoffs on the television.
