This stunning modernist house, originally designed by the County Architect Maurice Jones back in the late 1930’s and built as his family home after the war, has been completely renovated by the current owners, giving all the benefits of a 21st century property but ensuring that the integrity of the original modern design and vision has been maintained. The uninterrupted panoramic views of the from almost every room is truly breathtaking. Dodfield Horn now offers five bedrooms, four en-suites, a stunning open concept living/dining/kitchen, with the opportunity to have multi-generational living, all set in approximately 2 acres of well maintained gardens. Dodfield Horn Pages.indd 1 20/08/2020 11:26 Although the property originally dates back to 1949, during the recent renovations the whole concrete flat roof was replaced with stunning zinc roofing and all windows are now double glazed powder coated aluminium. All ground floor rooms benefit from underfloor heating.

The accommodation is predominantly on the ground floor with a glazed entrance leading into the open concept reception hall and living room beyond.

A curved hallway leads to three of the bedroom suites, all having curved walls and breathtaking views of the Malvern Hills.

Bedroom One has French doors onto the terrace, a stunning wet room and a walk in wardrobe.

Bedroom Two also has a walk in closet and wet room.

Bedroom Three is fitted with a disabled bath and shower above (removable).

The open concept living/dining/kitchen room flows beautifully and has bi fold doors opening onto the large wrap around terrace together with a stunning circular bay window that enjoys 180 degree views of the hills. A suspended Bathyscafocus woodburning stove combines the simple modern feel of the whole room, where the appreciation of the view is the number one focus.

The well appointed kitchen and adjoining utility room have high end built in appliances such as Franke Fragranite Sinks, Franke Extractor Hood and Hob, two stainless steel wall mounted ovens and an extra large undercounter oven. Dishwasher and space for the washing machine and tumble dryer. The kitchen has granite worktops with a breakfast bar for dining, and a central island for food preparation which also contains a two drawer refrigerator. Doors from both the kitchen and utility room lead out onto another terrace for alfresco dining.

Stairs lead up from the kitchen to the second floor office set in the original turret that was previously the water tank room.

A second set of stairs lead down to the basement floor which is now a fabulous bedroom suite with a circular bedroom, again with panoramic views and a study/ dressing room with an en-suite shower room. Perfect for teenagers or guests.

Also on the ground floor is an inner hallway which has storage, Bedroom Five which is currently used as an office, and a clockroom with curved feature walls and contemporary fittings.

This very striking, leading architect-designed family home enjoys a wonderfully scenic location. “The house was originally designed and built by the county architect for Worcestershire back in the 1940s, and it was way ahead of its time, which is one of the things that attracted my wife and I to it when we came across it eighteen years ago,” says the owner. “It’s unique architectural form has been designed to take full advantage of the quite spectacular setting. It enjoys an elevated position and the expansive grounds are surrounded by beautiful open countryside so we’re afforded the most magnificent panoramic views. It’s a very special place and we’ve enjoyed every minute of our time here.”

“When we came here the interior had last been updated at some point in the 1970s so it was stuck in a bit of a time warp and therefore it was definitely a project. We wanted to breathe new life into the whole house, essentially transform it into a very comfortable home ideal for modern living, but we were keen to enhance what was already here, rather than dramatically change it. Over time we’ve done lot of work to it and I’d say we’ve brought it well and truly into the 21st century, but it retains the originality that was so appealing to us when we bought it. The old flat concrete roof was removed and replaced with very smart zinc roofing, we rejigged the layout to make each of the bedrooms en-suite and we added two extensions that are sympathetic to the style of the original building, but which have enabled us to create a much larger kitchen and enhance the entrance to the house. We’ve also added new windows and doors, upgraded the heating system and we went down into the basement and added a whole new suite of rooms. It was a real labour of love and we couldn’t be more delighted with the results of all of our hard work.”

“We’re lucky enough to have around two acres of beautiful grounds that completely envelope the house so it’s very peaceful here and exceptionally private,” continues the owner. “I’d say that it’s a place forged by nature rather than overly manicured and therefore it has a very natural form that’s dictated by the trees and natural borders, and on one aspect we have a ha-ha so the land appears to meld with the countryside beyond, which beautifully enhances the far-reaching views. It’s a place quite unlike any other and its sheer beauty really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.”

“The round room, which is open-plan kitchen and living space is without doubt a standout feature of the property. It has a huge bank of windows that curve round and bring in a tremendous panoramic view out across the countryside all the way across to the Malvern Hills in the distance. Rain or shine, the outlook is absolutely spectacular.”

“We’re lucky enough to live in a wonderfully scenic location and we’re afforded utter peace and privacy, however we’re by no means isolated. We can be in Worcester in under fifteen minutes and we benefit from superb motorway and railway links so it’s relatively easy to get just about anywhere.”

“Downstairs in the basement area we’ve been able to create a lovely suite of rooms. There’s a home office, a bedroom and a shower room, so it’s a vey peaceful place if you need to work from home and it’s also a great space for guests.”

“We have decided we’d like to move closer to our family, but we’ll miss this house and this spectacular location terribly,” says the owner. “We’ve actually enjoyed the lockdown period because it’s given us an excuse to stay at home and enjoy this perfect place. I’m certain that there’s nowhere else quite like it.”*
