DUE TO PHENOMENAL DEMAND IRON MAIDEN ANNOUNCES ONE FINAL SHOW IN NEW YORK ON THEIR EPIC LEGACY OF THE BEAST TOUR - BROOKLYN, BARCLAYS CENTER SATURDAY JULY 27TH Brooklyn, NY - To satisfy fan demand, following a sold-out show in Brooklyn on Friday July 26, IRON MAIDEN have now confirmed a second night at Barclays Center on Saturday July 27 on their Legacy Of The Beast tour. Tickets go onsale Friday March 1st at 10am local time at LiveNation.com. This latest date completes the final tour routing for Maiden in North America and no further shows will be added. As always there will be an exclusive pre-sale for IRON MAIDEN fanclub members. The band’s triumphant first leg of the tour opened in Europe last year to outstanding critical acclaim, not just by over three quarters of a million fans who came to see the show but right across national press and rock media, including The Times (UK) newspaper calling it “..an extraordinary show filled with world class theatrics…a masterclass in performance and staging.” Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson comments, “We’re excited to return to North America and unveil the Legacy Of The Beast Tour to all our friends there! We’re immensely proud of this show and we’ve had great reactions from the many fans who came to see us in Europe last year. The production is based on our mobile game THE LEGACY OF THE BEAST which basically takes various incarnations of Eddie into many different Maiden Worlds. A SPATIAL HISTORY OF ICARIAN COMMUNISM by John Derek McCorquindale A thesis submitted to the faculty of Brigham Young University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Department of French & Italian Brigham Young University April 2008 ABSTRACT A SPATIAL HISTORY OF ICARIAN COMMUNISM John Derek McCorquindale Department of French and Italian Master of Arts Prior to the 1848 Revolution in France, a democrat and communist named Étienne Cabet organized one of the largest worker’s movements in Europe. Called “Icarians,” members of this party ascribed to the social philosophy and utopian vision outlined in Cabet’s 1840 novel, Voyage en Icarie , written while in exile. This thesis analyzes the conception of space developed in Cabet’s book, and tracks the group’s actual spatial practice over the next seventeen years. During this period, thousands of Icarians led by Cabet attempted to establish an actual colony in the wilderness of the United States.

    Lusty, “Rocking the Canon” LATCH, Vol. 6, 2013, pp. 101-138 ROCKING THE CANON: HEAVY METAL AND CLASSICAL LITERATURE By Heather L. Lusty University of Nevada, Las Vegas While metalheads around the world embrace the engaging storylines of their favorite songs, the influence of canonical literature on heavy metal musicians does not appear to have garnered much interest from the academic world. This essay considers a wide swath of canonical literature from the Bible through the Science Fiction/Fantasy trend of the 1960s and 70s and presents examples of ways in which musicians adapt historical events, myths, religious themes, and epics into their own contemporary art. I have constructed artificial categories under which to place various songs and albums, but many fit into (and may appear in) multiple categories. A few bands who heavily indulge in literary sources, like Rush and Styx, don’t quite make my own “heavy metal” category. Some bands that sit 101 Lusty, “Rocking the Canon” LATCH, Vol. 6, 2013, pp. 101-138 on the edge of rock/metal, like Scorpions and Buckcherry, do. Other examples, like Megadeth’s “Of Mice and Men,” Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” and Cradle of Filth’s “Nymphetamine” won’t feature at all, as the thematic inspiration is clear, but the textual connections tenuous.1 The categories constructed here are necessarily wide, but they allow for flexibility with the variety of approaches to literature and form. A segment devoted to the Bible as a source text has many pockets of variation not considered here (country music, Christian rock, Christian metal).

During 2013, we further grew our unmatched concerts global fan base by 10 million fans, attracting almost 60 million fans to our concerts. This tremendous growth fueled our sponsorship and ticketing businesses with Ticketmaster managing nearly 4400 million total tickets in 2013. Combined, we delivered a record year for revenue, AOI and free cash flow. Our results demonstrate the effectiveness of our business model, establishing Live Nation as what we believe to be the number one player in each of our businesses, with concerts driving our flywheel, which is then monetized across our high margin on-site, sponsorship and ticketing businesses. Strong Fan Demand for Live Events We continue to see the tremendous power of live events, with strong global consumer demand. Research shows that live events are a high priority for discretionary spending, and over 80% of our fans surveyed indicate that they plan on attending the same or more events in 2014 as in 2013. Another sign of the strength of our business is that 85% of Live Nation’s fan growth came organically, from our promoting more shows in amphitheaters, arenas and stadiums; from launching new festivals; and from establishing operatioons in new markets.

This is Aberdeen after all, a lonely outpost that plays host to such diverse names as David Gray and Coldplay. It’s just too good an opportunity to miss. By the time Blaze come on, a steady crowd has gathered, largely made up of old Maiden fans, who seem to crawl out of the woodwork whenever such events come around, plus a good number of metal kids. Even Fudge decide to grace us with their presence. Black seems to be the colour of choice tonight. The band are dressed in black. The stage is black. And I am wearing, well, white for some reason. The other thing I should mention about the stage is the huge drum-kit that takes up half of it.
