The Black Library Page 1 SPACE HULK A Warhammer 40,000 novel By Gav Thorpe In the darkness of a derelict space hulk, the faith and fury of the Blood Angels are tested to the limit. In this companion novel to the Space Hulk game, a battle is raging between Terminators of the Blood Angels Space Marines and a macabre alien race. But their resolve and skill is pitted against something that haunts their past – the thousands of foes they face are the same creatures that six centuries ago nearly decimated the Chapter. As a survivor of the earlier massacre, Sergeant Lorenzo has more to prove than any other. Carrying the stigma of the failure, he now fights for personal deliverance and to redeem the Chapter’s honour. About the Author Prior to becoming a freelance writer, Gav Thorpe worked for Games Workshop as lead background designer, overseeing and contributing to the Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 worlds. He has written numerous novels and short stories set in the fictional worlds of Games Workshop, including the Time of Legends 'The Sundering' series, the seminal Dark Angels novel Angels of Darkness, and the Last Chancers omnibus. • Mi-Go 1 Mi-Go
Mi-go 1 Mi-go An interpretation of the Mi-Go by Ruud Dirven Mi-go ("The Abominable Ones") is a Himalayan nickname for a race of extraterrestrials in the Cthulhu Mythos created by H. P. Lovecraft and others. The name was first applied to the creatures in Lovecraft's short story "The Whisperer in Darkness" (1931), elaborating on a reference to 'What fungi sprout in Yuggoth' in his sonnet cycle Fungi from Yuggoth (1929–30) which described the contrasting vegetation on alien dream-worlds. Summary The "Mi-go" are large, pinkish, fungoid, crustacean-like entities the size of a man; where a head would be, they have a "convoluted ellipsoid" composed of pyramided, fleshy rings and covered in antennae. According to two reports in the original short story, their bodies consist of a form of matter that does not occur naturally on Earth; for this reason, they do not register on ordinary photographic film. They are capable of going into suspended animation until softened and reheated by the sun or some other source of heat. They are about five feet (1.5 m) long, and their crustacean-like bodies bear numerous sets of paired appendages. They possess a pair of membranous bat-like wings which are used to fly through the "aether" of outer space (a scientific concept which is now discredited). The wings do not function well on Earth. Several other races in Lovecraft's Mythos also have wings like these. The Mi-go can transport humans from Earth to Pluto (and beyond) and back again by removing the subject's brain and placing it into a "brain cylinder", which can be attached to external devices to allow it to see, hear, and speak.

  • Night Floors by Dennis Detwiller
Night Floors ©2008 Dennis Detwiller (With help from Robert Parker) “Night Floors” is a Delta Green scenario set in Manhattan, New York. The investigators play Delta Green agents and/or friendlies brought in to catalogue the articles of a missing painter. The bizarre tapestry of items in her apartment hints at something more than the everyday; for those few who can solve the mystery the rewards are reaped . elsewhere. Background Abigail Laura Wright is missing. A successful commercial illustrator and artist, Abigail was last seen four days before she was reported missing by her father, Thomas Wright. Thomas Wright is a Nassau County police officer and he has pulled some strings to get the NYPD more involved than is usually the case. Abigail had been living in Manhattan for more than seven years and has only been to the police once, to report a mugging in 1994 (still unsolved). Besides this, she has a distinguished academic record and an impressive list of credentials and former clients. Late last year, her first show was held on Franklin Street downtown at The Mercury, a small but trendy art gallery. She managed to sell fifteen pieces, and with this money took a half-year off to paint. Six months later she disappeared. Her father tried reaching her for four days before calling a friend at the NYPD on June 4th. When the police opened her studio on 32nd Street East they found a baffling tableaux. What once was a modest apartment had become an obsessive-compulsive’s dream. Every available surface was covered in junk, glued or taped to the walls.
